    Artist History
Fuse: 1. (n) A tube or case filled with combustible matter, used in blasting or discharging a shell. 2. (n) A new wave metal band from the depths of Eastern Iowa that is used for blasting the crowd’s minds away and driving them into a frenzy with phat bass rhythms, raucous 7-string guitar melodies, pulse-charging drums and vicious vocals.Late in the summer of 1999 a new band was formed from four guys looking for an outlet to let out aggression and do something that they love- play music that can get people going. The bands members are Jason (guitar), Paul (bass), Adam (drums), and Viz (vocals). Paul, Jason and Adam all went to high school together at Marion high school in (yes, you guessed it!) Marion, Iowa. They had been friends for sometime and had been playing together for about a year and a half with another vocalist under the name Lucid Fly. They were mostly a cover band and did not play many shows. When the Jason, Paul and the singer went off to college the band went their own ways and did their own thing. During this time Jason happened to meet Viz both through school at the world famous Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and also at their place of employment. Viz had had past experience playing in bands. He was in a punk band that is still active in Cedar Rapids and also was in two other bands that were pretty much worthless. Jason and Viz started a band with another guitarist and a DJ to play at the illustrious Kirkwood Battle of the Bands. That sucked. The band, called H2SO4 soon split. This all went down in the spring and when the summer came Lucid Fly got back together. Jason, having jammed with Viz before, invited him to a practice. Soon the other singer quit and Viz joined the line-up. The four changed the name to Fuse and began to write all original songs. After about a month or so, and having never played a show, the four recorded a CD called Dolly. The CD was made up of six songs: When I’m Outside, Beg For, Suffocate, Away, Dolly (the title track, surprise!) and what has come to be known as their calling card of sorts, We Don’t Want No Stinkin’ Phat Chicks! Well, the summer ran out but the four decided to keep going, eventually playing their first show in the month of November at a tiny, crappy little corner bar in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This would prove to be the first of many shows that the foursome would play. They also sold their CD (for a copy just wait- I’m still working on that! Try e-mailing me) for a measly $7 at shows and by hassling friends. It turned out to prove worth-while as all who have purchased it have “loved it!” They even sell out of CDs at shows most times. What can I say, demand is high after they play! Currently Adam and Paul are attending the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Jason is living in Cedar Rapids and Viz is at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. This makes it a challenge to practice (also cops breaking up the practices because of “noise levels” seem to be a challenge as well!) and write new songs. But with a great amount of fortitude they have written some new ones with titles such as Freak, Tears, and I Lie. New ones are also in the works and fans (as well as future fans- that means you!) can look for a new CD to be out sometime late 2000 or early 2001.
