    Artist History
Since their creation in late 2000, Base Eleven has been attacking audiences with dark, heavy riffs, artillery-like drums, and brutal yet sophisticated vocals. Their notoriety has been spreading out from their hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma to as far away as the coasts and each show brings newer faces. They carry with them influences that range from the heavy alternative sounds of Tool, Soundgarden, or Alice in Chains from the early to mid nineties, to even some of the newer "melodic" metal sounds of today. The music of Base Eleven deals with a variety of subjects that they themselves or people around them have had experience with. Topics such as religion, drugs, relationships, etc. are all part of what makes up a roller coaster of emotional music that they put every ounce of energy into when they play. However, what someone in the audience may not see is the typical vulgar teenage angst that most bands try to portray onstage. As one local producer put it, "They give metal some class." The band sets themselves apart from other local and regional acts by bringing an intelligent and mature anger and intensity on stage with them as well as excellent musicianship. The three founding members of Base Eleven met their second guitarist, Jay, through a mutual friend at a local recording studio where they rehearsed. At that time he had been recording with his current band, Virgil, and they asked him to sit in on one of their writing sessions. After that night, all previous projects were shelved and all four decided that this was the band that they should pursue. When they finished writing enough songs to make up a full set of live material the next course of action was to find a vocalist that would compliment their style of music. They knew they needed another good musician, someone with the ability to comprehend odd time signatures, a good sense of melody, but most of all they needed someone who also knew how to be emotional and passionate about what they would be singing. What they did not need was a "rock star". The band found what they were looking for when another local band, Methodose, disbanded some months after Base Eleven was formed. Nick Barton had acquired a sample of some of Methodose's material from a producer that was helping them record a demo and knew that their vocalist was what Base Eleven needed to be complete. They quickly acquired Jed's number and asked him down to run through some their newest material to see what would come about. What came about was the current lineup of Base Eleven today. What came about was intensely brutal and honest music without the aid of props and lights or affiliation with any particular cultural lifestyle. What came about were five musicians getting together and giving themselves to audiences, sharing their lives and stories with complete strangers so that everyone in the room would hopefully take that information and those feelings from that show and feel that they were all part of something important and meaningful, even if for just one hour.
