Artist History
Beginning at Berklee College of Music in Boston in 1998, those who would become Sleeping Bill formed under the guise of an all-improvised, avant funk quartet called Shedhopper. As keyboardist Jay Lesage, bassist David Sheaffer, and guitarist Steve Podgorski defined their musical horizons together in this project, vocalist and songwriter Sanford Harty was crafting a special blend of folk/rock influences with his unique and highly-emotional voice into songs of enormous strength and integrity. As these efforts continued, a bridge was forming between the soulful sounds of Sanford's compositions and the spacecraft that was Shedhopper. As this convergence of styles evolved, the blossoming group took up residence in a large, red house known affectionately as Shedhopper Manor, where a studio and permanant practice installation allowed for maximum creative potential and growth. It was then that drummer and Berklee-grad Steve Tyk completed the Sleeping Bill lineup with his inherent musical sense and powerful technique. |
