Artist History
BMF was formed in 1989 as band members Beck, Bidochka, Stulberg, and Reid attempted to become a "real" band. The guys had already worked together, with assorted other members, on zillions of projects that comprised mostly of improvised songs recorded to cassette tape. The BMF was this collective's first stab at "organized" music...you know, where you actually write songs in advance of recording and performing them. During the formation of the band it was decided that the band needed a bass player, and so Colin Reid bought a bass and learned to play. The original foursome jammed a lot in their basements and garages until the neighbours complained, and much of this nonsense was archived on cassette tape. During the winter of 1989-1990, the band held a lot of practices at the high school the guys attended. Enter Rory Mitchell, who became the bands keyboard player by simply being there during practice and playing piano and keyboard along with the original 4 guys. The new, five-member BMF recorded a demo for the purpose of submitting an application to a local music festival. BMF played at this festival in the spring of 1990, and that live show was recorded. The group played at its high school fashion/talent show and also several dates "on tour" with the school choir. After this, the BMF name was retired as the band evolved into another band, The Donuts....which is the beginning of another story entirely. |
