Artist History
It was late on Friday night during the 1992 Chicago Blues Festival and it was the time to decide which night club to visit. We opted for Magic Slim at the ‘River West’, because the late ‘Professor’ Eddie Lusk’s Blues Review played after Slim.Professor had told us about his latest ‘discovery’ from Vancouver, Canada, Nigel Mack. There are few ensembles that could hold the crowd at 2:00am after Magic Slim and the Teardrops had finished. There are few ensembles that could hold the crowd at 2:00am after Magic Slim and the Teardrops had finished. That night was the exception. The energy and enthusiasm were contagious. The Professor’s ambassador-ship was on full display as Nigel Mack sat in with the Professor’s Blues Review and proceeded to treat us to his searing slide guitar, along with his high energy harp attack. The last thing the Professor told Nigel that weekend was ‘Chicago is your town’.Nigel tours the states annually and always includes a stop in Champaign. He has helped us raise money during our pledge drive at WEFT, including a donation of his own. There aren’t many touring bands that manage to play two clubs in Kansas City the same week. Nigel Mack and the Blues Attack have. If you’re a fan of blistering slide guitar, you’ll love Nigel Mack. How about some killer harp? He can do both. He’s a damn good singer/songwriter too. If you love the blues, you will be a fan of Nigel Mack, just like me, Swingin’ Dave.WEFT 90.1 FM Champaign, IL. |
