Artist description
Welcome to Florence! It is the early 14th century and the town is one of Europe's most important trade and spiritual centres. Here, in the meeting between the profane and the profound, we can witness the birth of a whole new musical genre: The Lauda. "Lauda" means "Song of praise" and is just that - a song in the vernacular, i.e. Italian, with a compelling narrative, usually about the acts of saints. The singing was often accompanied by instruments, and the whole genre stems from a breed between secular and churchly origins - the Lauda can indeed be called a meeting of heaven and earth! |

Artist History
CdL ("Compagnia delle Laude") consist of three young Swedish musicians with the medieval period as their specialty and interest. They first met during the winter of 1995 where they performed Viking music during Europe's biggest exhibition on the Vikings. Since then, they have continued studying and performing medieval music in many different constellations. Erik Ask-Upmark and Anna Rynefors have a medieval duo called Falsobordone, whereas Karin Lagergren has pursued an active career as freelancing early music-singer and teacher. |
