Artist description
Members are aged between 14 and 21 and are drawn from throughout the county of Berkshire. The choir hasapproximately 90 members, who enjoy singing a wide repertoire, from 17th century French folk songs to negrospirituals, of the type which has brought the title of "Choir of the Year" to Berkshire for the first time. |

Artist History
The Berkshire Youth Choir was formed in 1984 and is now undoubtedly one of the best SATB Choirs in the country.Their national reputation has been strengthened greatly in the past twelve months; in July 1996 they received theoutstanding award in the Choral Competition of the National Festival of Music for Youth at the Royal Festival Hall, andin November won the most prestigious award in amateur choral - the title of Sainsbury's Choir of the Year. They haveenjoyed several tours abroad, giving concerts in France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Czech Republic and Hungary.Gillian Dibden, founder and conductor of BYC, Head of Voice/Choral Music for the Berkshire Young Musicians Trust (BYMT), studied piano and cello at the Royal College of Music. She also conducts the Berkshire Boys' and the Berkshire Girls' Choirs and the Youth and Junior Opera Groups. |
