Artist History
Formed in 1992 in Marseille, France, u-mass underwent several line-up changes to reach a stable status in 1996 and start getting more serious.Opened for the Catchers in 1998, performed about 30 gigs since with a repertoire of about 25 songs, all rooted in the Power-Pop genre from the 60's to the 90's.Forced to split in november of 99 due to the relocation of Chouche, the bass-player, to Lyon and Gaby (me!), singer-guitarist, to Redwood City, California. As of now, the other members are not in another band but keep doing music and Gaby (me!) is still doing gigs and promoting u-mass' music in the Northern California area and now on the web. Most of the band's best works are now for sale exclusively online thanks to Mp3.com on one cd called "Gavada!". |

Press Reviews
"u-mass has got some well inspired and invigorating power-pop numbers in stock (...) Whether they do it accoustic or full power, u-mass' tour de force consists in sticking some of their melodies in your head for good" (Libération, french national newspaper)."u-mass' sound is steeped in the original British, parka-friendly music of the Who and their late '70s and '80s offspring (the Mod revivalists), as well as the hooky Brit Pop of the '90s" (Listen.com)."Isn't that what you call a ”hit?” - grade: 5/5" (the ANAR site on "Fly! Fly! Fly!")."This song has a great energy and some great harmonies (...) If the band from 'That Thing You Do' had been a 90's band instead of a 60's band, they might have sounded like this (...)" (Mp3 Reviewer on "Fly! Fly! Fly!"). |
