Artist History PUREPLEX Hailing from Cleveland,Ohio,home of 216 records, Pureplex is an example of what happens when many disciplines and influences are funneled through the new school methods of electronic music science. Founded in 1996 by composer/percussionist/DJ Neil Chastain and then later joined by saxophonist Tom Prasek and MC skaware, Pureplex combine elements of various traditions in acoustic improvisation with intelligent dance floor rhythms and synthesized sound. African, Latin and Middle Eastern rhythms, jazz sensibilities and jeep ratllin' bass make up the key ingredients. In July of 1998 Pureplex released their first full length s/t CD to critical acclaim from publications such as Alternative Press and the Cleveland Free Times. Since then the group has had a busy schedule performing live at a number of parties;420 version 3, Family Affair(97,98)and Lit 2, as well as a variety of club dates all over Ohio(Cleveland, Columbus and Kent). Pureplex has been heard on a number of college radio stations and is a favorite among electronic programmers at WCSB, WRUW and WUJC Cleveland. Those who have witnessed Pureplex in performance were enthralled to see a group utilizing so many unique percussion and other acoustic instruments within a tight frame work of sequenced drum and bass and ambient down tempo sound scapes.
