    Artist description
When you look at the history of metal, there are a few eras which come to mind. For me, metal began - really began that is - in the early to mid 80s. I was a young University student in 1983 when I first heard of the new thing called "thrash metal", which was so extreme for the time. I, and so many more like me, were immediately hooked. It was a time when the world seemed to be much more innocent. Where we were definitely more innocent. Our uniform was jeans, high topped sneakers, leather coats sleeveless denim jackets and tshirts. And our music did not reflect our innocence. We listened to violent, angry music which we were helping to create through various efforts. Some of us were the ones who spread it around what became known as "the Underground". Some of us played it on the radio. And some of us sat down at guitars and drums and in front of microphones to pour themselves into the music personally. It was during those old days of tape trading and radio promotion that I met NxMxE, a band which immediately captured my attention. I remember the first time I heard Lethal Dose...I knew it was one of those songs and they were one of those band which were going to continue to break ground. NxMxE blended crunchy guitars, heavy bass, punk and hardcore feelings and catchy beats, all into a mixture of bouncy aggression. Never did I nor many of my peers imagine what we would see in the years to come. How our efforts would impact music in general and metal in particular, as we see it now in 2002. Death and Black metal grew out of bands like NxMxE, whom I call one of the pioneers of those metal sub-genres. They've been cited as influences for some of the early Norweigan black metal bands, such as Mayhem. During their hiatus of about 15 years, NxMxE became a band with cult status in the metal scene. They have re-emerged now, in the new millenium, as strong as they were back in the 80s. Their new material still has those catchy basslines, crossover feel, and insane lyrics. We've come a long way, from being young kids waiting weeks to trade tapes with our friends around the world to the instancy of the internet. NxMxE and I have both come back from our long hiatuses stronger than we were back then, and ready to take the world by storm once again. We're not as innocent as we once were, but I think we've improved with age. - Shelley Slater, See you in Hell, WCSB 89.3 fm, Cleveland, Ohio USA, August 2002
