Artist description
dragon girls have been brandishing their unique sense of music (and humor) for 3years. The not-all-female four -piece band...starts with a punk approach, adds popmelodies, and incorporates metal, country and surf riffs galore. Founded in 1996 by Litha Ramirez and later joined by guitarist JerryDonahue, bassist James Wallace and drummer Dave Cottini they workedwith well known recording engineer Phil Bonnet to create their first full lengthrelease, "PINK BEEF" in 1997. After receiving critical acclaim after it's release in the spring of 1998, dragongirls knew that it was time to hit the road to promote their non-stop, high energy, performances to the masses. Tom Collier replaced Dave in the fall of 98, dragon girls have been concentratingon their live performances which retain a theatrical quality that has it's origins inVaudeville and costume design. |

Press Reviews
Dragon Girls' quirky and melodic grrrl rock is both catchy and enjoyable. Front woman Litha Ramirez's vocals are alternately candy-coated and throaty, varying according to the directionof the post-punk pop guitar she and partner Jerry Donahue create so effectivelyon songs like "Stick" and the infectious "Backflip". At their best, theband, rounded out by bassist/vocalist James Wallace and drummer/vocalistDave Cottini, sound strangely reminiscent of X, largely based on theirearthy, potent blend of male and female harmony. The overwhelming vibe, though, is fun, and the Girls are quick to brandish their irreverent senseof humor ("Pain Song") to prove it. Illinois Entertainer |
