Press Reviews
"I like your songs. I love the combination of sounds and sound effects and the artistry and creativity you exhibit in your music." - Ron Grimes, regular writer for LeAnn Rimes [rongrimes@timelesscreationsmusic.com]
"lovely. just freakin lovely. the kind of shiny sparkling pop-craft I love listening to. Not precisely "nice", as I find this stuff always has some kind of weird bitterness to its flavor, but perfect for cruising along at work or on road. I think I'll be nabbing all your noise, and getting the cd asap. Keep up the wonderful work. Love the twinkling intro too." - Perki [perki@lanminds.com]
"I've enjoyed what I've heard so far (I will be back to hear the rest.) U Are The 1 - Solid, bright sound with an undercurrent of seriousness (like ABBA meets The Thompson Twins--NOT a bad merger as no one has done this before.) The lyrics match the music and are fine. I Remember When - You've got a winner here!!! Skew it to more of a dance mix and you've got a Cher song; a bit more Latino and you've got a Ricky Martin song. Unless you want to be a vocal artist (and you could with just a bit of Chorus and compression on your vocal tracks) I suggest you pitch this one. Continued success..." - Rick Carfora, Edrick Records [edrick@edrick.com, www.edrick.com]
"I really love your music ... if anyone asks me I'll say listen to this man he is a good writer and when he is rich and famous and on Top of the pops you will regret not supporting him in his early career, so there! It is great! [Beautiful Mind] Well of course I loved this song! The best yet! It sounded along the same lines as Erasure's b-side 'don't suppose'. Beautiful Mind is a beautiful song for beautiful people with beautiful hearts. It was charming to the soul in only a way that a prince could be, so I name you The Prince Of Pop! Hee Hee! [Being Me] This is my 2nd absolute favorite of the lot. It is catchy and has a pleasing effect on the ear, oooh yes iot also makes you go all gooey inside!! Absolutely lovely! [Has It Happened] I thought this was great. Out of the four songs this is my 2nd favourite 'cause its pretty catchy. [Tonight] Right this is my 3rd fave. It was still as lovely as a nibble on your ear by the one you love, hee hee! [What Can I Do] I still thought it was brill ... probably one of those that you have to listen to a few times then you'll be humming them for days!! I general the songs sounded on the verge of New Order with David Sylvian singing on lead vocals, which is a good combination. All the songs were very listenable and I enjoyed them flowing lovingly into my ears! It's just my 2 cents worth, but I thought I should just mention how much I enjoyed listening to them! Love, Anna. xxx" - Anna Bravington [v.bravington@virgin.net]
"I love the songs! I really do. The songs are fun and uplifting, they've really grown on me. With a female voice, they might sound a bit Dubstar-ish - they're very light and poppy, but not lightweight as such [ie they're not 'one-hit wonder' songs], though some are catchier than others." - Ariane Sherine [ariane1sherine@hotmail.com]
"Your demos are fantastic....I only wish I had half your talent! I'm insanely jealous and I hope some record company gives you a break. Don't give up your dream man. I like all your tracks, but if I had to rate them I would say: Tonight, Has It Happened?, What Can I Do? and Being Me equal. Best of luck from New Zealand" - Dean Smith [dean@land-mobile.co.nz]
"Man your tracks are awesome!!! Very very very cool!!!!! 10 and 1/2 points!! I must say, your singing is different. We don't get a lot of your style down here in New Zealand. Anyways I think Tonight is your best one. It doesn't matter what the lyrics are or not but what trip you take your listener on!!! I would love to hear more - do you have a demo tape??? BTW - did you ever get the girl in your songs??? She must have been special to inspire you to write very beautiful songs about her!! BTW - very cool site also!!!!!!! I love your dolphins!!!" - Danny Becket [beckettd@ihug.co.nz]
"I really do like your music. It really is much better than what's played on the radio and what's "popular" [Spice Girls, for example]. I do like them all. I think you have a good career ahead of you. Heck, I'd buy something that sounded like your stuff any day. You aren't selling that demo tape, are you? I must say, I liked it quite a lot." - Scott Hunter [shunter1@epix.net]
"It is fairly good. Mostly catchy, and you have some good chord progressions. I liked it for the most part." - Bill Holyoak [billh@capsoft.com]
"[U Are The 1] befor the song ended I found my self rocking to the beat and eating some chips and dip. I like it. [Now And Then] Love that intro- the mode switching. guitar is perfect in the mix, the bass guitar raised my eye brows, like HEY I like that part. [Beautiful Mind] I feel the movie Lion KIng on this one. [Tonight] Great intro. gave me chills. Good dark vampir like sond to it. The bridge also. The ending is good also. [What Can I Do?] I like this one. Can I have a copy of your CD????????????? I thought I'd ask. You do have some interesting songs. Man Keep up the good work." - rstoryjr [rstoryjr@valuenet.net]
"I like what I heard music wise ... the overall songs I thought were as good anything that's out on a major label." - [BiffSteel1@aol.com]
"Dude the music is in there -- mix wise and and production wise." - rstoryjr [rstoryjr@valuenet.net]
"I think the music is great. I definately want to work with you..." - chase smith [chasemee@hotmail.com]
"I'm not a big fan of this style of music overall, BUT I do think you have much talent, and I certainly would agree that your music seems to be radio-friendly. I can easily imagine a dance club playing your songs, as well as pop radio stations. Regardless of our differences in taste, I still find your stuff pleasant and I respect your creativity and talent. You have a real professional sound. All the best to you!" - Bill J. Bernard [bernarwj@sterlingdi.com]
"Well I'm glad that I looked up this website you left on the synthpop board. Very good stuff. Tonight is probably my favorite and the rest fall into the order or which they are placed. I would really like some more information on when and where I can get some of your stuff om CD, please keep me posted, otherwise, keep up the good work." - Don [BryanH6671@aol.com]
"Great site! My votes are as follows: 4 points - "Tonight", 3 points - "Has It Happened", 2 points - "Being Me", 1 point - "What Can I Do". It takes some balls to invite open criticism of your material, so you have my instant respect! I'm a professional musician, with fairly considerable touring and studio experience under my belt, so I don't think I'm going toofar if I say that I probably know what makes not just a "good" tune, but a commercially saleable one. "Tonight" has the best hook line, and is definitely reminiscent of Pet Shop Boys, perhaps even a little bit Voice of the Beehive or Strawberry Switchblade. No bad thing. The songwriting shows real promise ... let me know when you update your site with new material so I can have a listen." - Dave [davjax@dircon.co.uk]
"I recommend that people try this stuff!" - Aaron Hefley [ahefley@iastate.edu, http://www.public.iastate.edu/~ahefley/binary.html]
"i listened, and liked. i listened again. the textures, i liked them. the vocals on some songs, were reminiscent, of my all time fave, Syd Barrett. British Synth PopMastermind. i like when someone plays all the instruments, handles all vocals. But yeah, your definely talented. i think it was the second song, the beat sounded Milli Vannilli like. i liked them, even though Metallica, Slayer and Mussorgsky were my main listening features. Sweet Mama Brown, i'd been blessed in by Jesus. Rock On." - moonfrog [aspire@snip.net]
"I think this sounds really good." - Geir Hongro [http://home.sol.no/knhongro/Geir/engelsk.htm]
"The 2 songs i checked out were pretty decent [can't remember which]. Kind of reminded me of New Order and Pink Floyd. Like Pink Floyd vocals over a synth backbeat." - Otto [30/5/98]
"I think your stuff is good ... your songs soundkind of Depeche Modeish or OMDish ... if that is what you are going for then all power to ya! Did you play all the instruments and arrange yourself? Everybody - checkout his page!" - Natalie [http://www.slip.net/~colinb]
"This is music with an atmosphere, you can relax and feel the place, not just listen to it. Mellow, yet cool. You got some good stuff, I really liked, "Being Me", was that on the QY-70? If it was, great job, It fooled me. As far as "Hit's", My vote goes to "Tonight", Cool little Tune, Shows your own distinct style nicely." - Michael S Stegner [Ragen@Hotmail.com]
"You've got skills. The songs are well written and if I worked for say mute records, I'd look into you. In my humble opinion you have a lot of talent." - Brian [bsm9666@is.nyu.eduspamorama]
"I love hearing good new music! ... This is pretty good stuff! You are certainly talented and the demos themselves are well done ... Dont give up if this is your dream!" - Freddy V [withheld]
"Your stuff is right up my alley! ... At times I was reminded of New Order or Pet Shop Boys. Track 2 is particularly cool, especially that middle section ... I'm reminded of Bernard Sumner with more of a Big Audio Dynamite delivery, like his work on Electronic. You also have a better grasp of pitch ... You make good use of your range and your delivery is overall appropriate to the music and lyrics ... I'd suggest looking for producer/engineer gigs in addition to singer/songwriter ones ... 'Has it happened?' is the best ... The most varied and dynamic, beyond what I'd expect from a demo ... [the vocals on 'Tonight' are] similar to 'I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing' by Pet Shop Boys ... [in 'being me'] the arrangement is very tasteful ... Like something vince clarke might have done if he hadn't split with alison moyet ... The chord progression is very nice [in the break of 'has it happened?'] ... good stuff." - Rob [kudla@ties.org]
"Well... I liked it. I found it to be sort of Pet Shop Boys, but with a 90s kind of ambient sound to it. That's the way I described it to our A&R guys. Very impressive presentation! I wish all of our prospective artists had your flair for self-promotion. I will pass your URL on to our A&R dept, and they should contact you within 6 weeks." - Matthew Safran, BOXX Entertainment International Corporation [matt@pgmp.com]
"I like your stuff. It draws on what was best about 80's synthpop [shades of New Order, Lightning Seeds and Squeeze] without being derivative. The chord progressions are appealingly tuneful and avoid cliché by taking some unexpected but rewarding turns. Your site is sharp, and I like the lyrics. I especially liked the romantic syllogism framed in your lines: "right when you least expect it you'll fall in love - that's what you said to me - I don't expect to find myself in love with you - so has it happened to me?" The logic of love can be cruel, no?" - Doug Anderson [ribeye@geocities.com]
"In sequencing and arrangements of your synth parts - you're there. You're at a professional level. You probably already knew this. I like ... your lyrics. Keep up the good work!" - Tammy Fowler, Songwriting Teacher [TamFowler@aol.com]
"After visiting your web page, I was impressed with the samples you have there and I would like to obtain a demo tape from you. If you could send me a copy ... I would be very happy to listen to it and evaluate it." - Edmund Tsai, A&R Dept., Gaijin Records [etsai@netcom.com]
"You sound a little like a mellow-pop version of the Smashing Pumpkins. All [your songs] are good. There used to be good music like this about three years ago in the charts, but they have been taken over with commercial crap dance and hip-hop. It is great to hear music with a bit of feeling and point to it than all the commercial stuff you get on the radio and I wish you all the best of luck." - Ryan [ryan@finman.dnet.co.uk]
"You obviously seem talented and I think you could do well ... most GOOD songs tend to grow with time. I think you'll do fine." - Jonas Henriksson [h-son@ludd.luth.se]
"Not bad Chris. I think we'll probally be hearing you soon on the radio. Don't forget us, when you're rich and famous." - David Sepulveda [davidsep@connecti.com]
"More interesting than what makes it on the radio ... Takes a lot of guts ... Keep making music" - Mark Fassett [withheld]
You are very talented. Clearly, you are a very accomplished musician and, again, I think your recordings are very good, but they have that "over-produced" sound that you will never escape with digital MIDI (IMHO). The recordings are high quality... BUT... MIDI music is terrible. You need a "real" band- really! I think your song "Tonight" has alot of potential; it's a good song. Most of the others I did not care for, but I think that is because I think they all sound the same (MIDI stuff...). I would be impressed if you posted this "review" to your page as I get the impression you are only posting "positive reviews". I'd be glad to "review" in more detail if you did post this and I thought you were really seeking critical "advise". Keep up the good work- I enjoyed your page and am impressed with your initiative." - Dunk [SMacDunk@aol.com]
"Your songs were well put together ... definitely good" - J R Reichman [withheld]
"This sounds promising" - Jules [withheld]
"'Being Me', 'Tonight' and 'What Can I Do?' are a go-go ... You'll make squillions!" - Thomas Wood [kitschy@msn.com]
"Really good ... [My family] has listened many times ... Good lyrics ... Strong voice" - Graham Whiting
"I would like to say your demos are as good as the stuff JyotI Mishra [AKA White Town] is putting out and you deserve as much success!! Keep it up!" - Mark/Mr PSB [MrPSB@hartshay.demon.co.uk] |
