Press Reviews
Angie Paris " Umbrella " Genre: pop reviewed by Megan McGehee Angie Paris delivers beautiful lyrics and sweet messages of love and empathy for all people in her album 'Umbrella.' Her voice, vaguely recalling Lisa Loeb in its quiet simplicity, has the subtle power of a sunbeam to radiate hope through her songs. Her vocal and writing style no doubt has its roots in her humanitarian work with children in Eastern European orphanages, and she includes lines appropriate to her values ("I need a love that never ceases (Never Ceases)," "help is available to heal a broken soul (Heaven).") The CD starts off slowly; ballads accompanied by characteristic block piano chords gradually move through more upbeat rhythms and even to slightly jazzy harmonic work and fingering on track 7. The light piano arrangements are smartly backed by appropriately timed accents from bongos, slap bass, or familiar strings when required, and the sound of the album is as comforting as its lyrics.Angie Paris has produced truly beautiful work in this CD. In "Angel On My Shoulder," Paris sings that she wants "strength and courage to do what's right," but she is surely already doing right if her actions in life reflect the ideals she expresses so eloquently in song. Hit Picks: "Love Will Not Fail" and "Umbrella" --gogirlsmusic.com / Angie Paris - Umbrella "Love Will Not Fail" "This piano-playing popster is beyond insightful and borders on a refreshing inspiration we're hoping a variety of radio formats will share. 'Love Will Not Fail' is one of so many amazingly awesome songs from Angie, who we're happy to know is back in the studio to complete her next record for release just before 2001. For now, we can't encourage you enough to listen, think about and let yourself escape to the contemplative, soul-searching sensibility of Angie Paris." --Get Fancy Magazine's SPIN IT! Radio / Artist: Angie Paris MP3: With Me Still Rating: ***** "Here is a beautiful song that is excellently written and contains some very good vocals. The songwriting is magnificent and allows the music to flow with the smooth vocal textures. If you like Alanis Morissette and even Tori Amos, you'll love this song." -- TheGlobalMuse.com / "Alanis is alive and moving her voice into other women. Angie Paris proves this expertly in 'Never Ceases', one of the hits on her current album which seems to be getting lots of airplay, as well as this song being picked as 'Song of the Day' on MP3.com, which is a difficult feat. You have to admire that. You have to listen to the song too to understand. The album itself is too good to be indie. The production quality is Big Boys and could storm the charts if it had enough of a push. I quite like it. Wish it were more than 41 minutes, but... 'Beyond the Walls' is another tune that is not only a pleasant listen, but gives me hope that this decade will see us breaking out of the folk-backed indie that took up so much of the 90s." -- The Muse's Muse Music Reviews by Ben Ohmart / "The production is ethereal and moody, a perfect setting for Angie's fragile voice. She does have a range of textures, sometimes airy, sometimes breaking into a full voice that's quite compelling." --Indie-music.com / Angie Paris - Umbrella "The Search" "You might call Angie Paris a 'pop' artist... but that's not true. Truth is, she proves herself to be multi-faceted in her genre'. A superb voice, presenting intelligently written songs, all pulled together with really nice arrangements, Paris is clearly not just another singer-songwriter." --Karen Reynolds, Writer's Block Playlist |
