Press Reviews
review from ‘IRISH VOICE’ Dec 1999 by Tom Dunphy“Gorman’s Got the Goods” An introspective, eleven-song collection marked by tender songwriting and strong, airy melodies. Gorman has produced and played most of the instruments himself, but ‘Son of Adam’ doesn’t have that cut-rate quality that many homemade productions suffer from. If anything, the spare acoustic-oriented production allows the songs to breathe and soar.“Zen Five” with its cascading piano figure and tabla interlude, is catchy and inviting. The breezy “Madeline” is a gorgeous tribute to a lover. And Gorman throws heart and soul into “Shine”-longing lyrics and a nearly-breaking voice gives life to a stunningly beautiful song that’s at once personal and cinematic. There’s a spiritual undercurrent to this collection, from the cross and fish on the cover to titles like “Resurrection Day” and “Messiah (Where is your happy place?)”. But there’s no proselytizing - Gorman wisely allows his songs to do the persuading. He makes a compelling argument You can get a copy of Son of Adam by visiting Gorman online at www.henrygorman.com, or download one for a few bucks at www.mp3.com |
