Artist History
Like any band's follow up album, Songs from the Musicbox shows the
natural evolution of a band. But with this album 13 Stars takes
that notion a half step further. It takes only a few minutes to
realize that Songs from the Musicbox is very different from their
1999 debut, The Nova Project. From the punk rock energy of "For
the Kids," the epic "Into Space," and the classic rocker "Just a Dream,"
the album shows it has a little something for everyone.
Produced almost entirely on their own, Songs from the Musicbox
shows the stripped down raw energy of the band. With lyrics
like "why do you have to say I'm jaded, that I'm so over rated,
if you don't want to see me just turn off the TV" the album
also shows a band not concerned with trends in music. The album
is the musical highlights of three years of trials and tribulations.
For a regional band those three years proved to be hectic much of
the time. The band logged in over 250 plus shows on weekend and
week long tours in seven states. "We love getting out there and
playing as much as possible. We meet so many cool people," admits
Scott. This philosophy on touring allowed them to play alongside many
nationally known artists such as Dishwalla, Fastball, The All-American
Rejects, Days of the New, and The Riddlin Kids.
The months leading up to Songs from the Musicbox's November 5, 2002
release proved to be especially gratifying to the band. They picked
up the Best Alternative Rock Act for the second straight year at the
annual Oklahoma Rock Awards. Aside from band recognition there was
also personal recognition as well as Jason was awarded an endorsement
from Gibson Guitars and Annatomik was awarded an endorsement from
Daisy Rock Basses.
So, with Songs from the Musicbox now under their belt 13 Stars proudly
introduces the features of their 2003 plan; a new EP to be released in
the fall as well as a steady diet of touring and promotion. Yes, a
well-oiled rock and roll machine will be hitting your town soon. "I feel
we are more together than ever before. Everything's really clicking now,"
Jason reveals. With this said, 2003 could prove to be an interesting year.
