    Press Reviews
City Life Magazine"They may care more for GCSE geography than rock 'n' roll excess, but Wiganites The People (they're still 16 you know), seem already stadium bound.Trad-rock in a more Stereophonics vein of communality, this is refined, accomplished indie which negates the expected Robbie-like levels of hideous populism.Sure, swollen epics like "I know" or the soul-stirring "Broken but healing" may carry a hint of meat & potato values about them, but you'd be hard-pressed to knock riffage this leaden from a band too young to get served in pubs." - David Sue (City Life)-------------------------------------------------------------------Manchestermusic.co.ukTHE PEOPLE - 3 TRK CD - [The People]How can a bunch of school kids from Wigan be better than half the bands in Manchester? The People somehow seem to have achieved this with their latest demo. More plushly recorded, produced and arranged, it’s a pure slice of pop action, using the well proven mix of acoustic and electric guitars with bass and drums. It's possible chart stuff. It's totally solid and very tuneful. Whether they are quite good enough for Top Of The Pops yet is another question. There is however, a sackload of potential and good songwriting, that puts a lot of other pretenders to shame."Broken But Healing" (watch the spelling - I thought it said Broken Butt... at first), has a slowly swinging bass line with loads of jangly guitars and some 'atmospheric keyboards' shoved in over the chorus. It’s a little overproduced, but this is singled out because there's little else to fault. Its a good song, which again belies their age and the future for this bunch should be bright if they stick with it, find themselves within their music and keep pushing their own boundaries.AS.------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wigan Reporter Review of Demo CD 20/7/00 - Allan Ledward"This is uncompromising, effortless, undiluted class. Incredibly The People - Anthony Lavin, Kieron Devlin and Marc Hogan - are all just 15-years-old and have been together for less than a year, but it would be unfair to say they are good for their age. This, their first studio recording, quite simply takes your breath away. It is superb. These tracks have a refreshing originality and subtlety that most bands strive for and never achieve. Nowhere is their a formula being followed and it's difficult to pick out a chorus in most of the tracks, they just fall back on the fact that the songs are so well written they don't need them. Neither could you say who their influences are, you can only hear The People, no rip-offs required. To say this is a band to keep an eye on in the future is a huge understatement, watch them now and as soon as you can."
