Artist History
With their new 3-track single “Blister”, Skyjack have written songs that can be at times textural and experimental but always abrasive and catchy. “Blister”, “Nine” and “Craving” will take you on a breath-taking journey into the band’s own conception of modern Heavy-Rock.
Back in 1999, Skyjack released their first demo "Zero Communication" (7/10 in Metal Hammer UK). This already displayed that not only were they skilled musicians but that they were also talented songwriters. The E.P, besides asserting them as a new strength within the Irish music scene, introduced them to a now ever growing fan-base. “Zero Communication” also showed that Skyjack were not a band that would limit itself in just playing straightforward aggressive songs. You could find the really heavy-driven “Sandpaperman” alongside a very quiet and melodic track like ”#37”.
Produced and financed by the band "Blister" was recorded in their home-studio but the results, musically and emotionally, were above all expectations. Brian’s guitar will attack or caress the listener. Sean’s twisted and unusual bass sounds emphasise the moods of the songs. Liam’s drums supply the foundations and ornaments to the songs all at once while David pours his soul into each and every word.
Talking to David we got to know a bit more about the songs:
"Blister” is a bit of an angry song about attention seekers, just basically telling them that no matter how hard they try, they’ll never compete with the people we really do care about”.
“ Nine” deals with being on the other side of the coin, what would it be like to experience the despair of a needy person, someone who’s always looking for some company no matter what.
As for “Craving”, it’s probably our most experimental work to date; Brian’s repetitive guitar riff has a certain mesmerising quality. When we listened to it first, we knew this was going to be a very special song and we were proved right, each time we play it live it gets an incredible response from the audience, especially from people who hear it for the 1st time.
The best thing I recently heard after one of our gigs was someone telling me that seeing the band on stage was the musical equivalent of getting your head kicked in relentlessly but yet enjoying it at the same time! I knew then that we got our point across!”
“Blister” is already getting some regular airplay on Dublin’s favourite alternative radio Phantom FM as well as on X-treme FM in the UK. Also it recently got two raving reviews in Guitarist UK magazine and Total Guitar which are arguably the most popular guitar magazines in Europe (see overleaf).
