Founded by ex-Devastation drummer Dave Lozano, PSI has been hitting the DC/MD/VA tri-state scene since August 98.It didn't take much time for PSI to get noticed, and in March of 2000 they were picked up by a local indie label called Stone Age Survivor Records.PSI's full debut album entitled "Virus" will be released Spring 2001. They will go on a 30 state US Tour w/ REFLUX starting in July with a main stop at the Milwaukee Metal Fest. For more info, visit their official homepage at www.psiempire.com |

Press Reviews
PSI is like feeling a little ting of pain, taking a minute to hold your head and soothe away the sensation, then taking a single breathe before feeling a nail being driven through the center of your forehead. A song like "Guess What ... Bad News" is a perfect example. It starts off heavy as hell, then calms down while the drummer establishes a rhythm, giving you time to think about what you're going to break, when the vocalist (Javier Reyes) beckons the slamming guitars back in. Other songs like "Raja" offer some great transitions along with well placed vocals and guitar build-ups that makes you feel the heart that PSI is pouring into their songs. Others, however, such as "Compound Fracture" tend to get a little choppy at times and possibly show an uncertainty of direction, whereas some of them just don't care what opinion is taken, as in "Rude" where Javier chants "Bitch, fuck, ass, pussy, cunt" a few times throughout the song, but can also take a lighter tone, as in "Victim I" but usually not for long. The lyrics, at times, could use a little more cohesion and clarity and the vocalist could probably work on his versatility. The drummer, Dave Lozano, does an excellent job of bringing the tracks to life with the heart-thumping bass lines and haphazard fills, where there would otherwise be a gaping void. Overall, I enjoyed the CD; it has the potential to shoot tremors through your organs without getting alot of shit, and I look forward to hearing more material from PSI in the future.-Editor, Mid-Atlantic Music Zine.http://www.mmzonline.com |
