Artist description
MEATBEE have been impressing audiences with their frenetic performances since 1999. The blend of Lopez's stinging guitar solos, the funked-up shake-your-ass bass lines of Le Blanc , the chest thumping rhythms of Bigg-Wither, and the raw blues of Sullivan's melodies make this band one not to be missed.
MEATBEE's debut EP available through the MEATBEE website.
Check it out. Bee impressed. ˇˇ |

Artist History
MEATBEE was born in the winter of 2000. From rock favourites "Little Girl" and "Last Drinks" to bleak, blue balads "Quiet Room" and "Shooting The Moon", MEATBEE take audiences on a tour of the whole gamut of musical emotions.
MEATBEE's mix of musical i nfluences is so diverse that the four might as well have come from the four furthest reaches of the globe. Bigg-Wither struggles with his shaded past playing in a country/funk band, Le Blanc spends his days listening to metal, Lopez believes he is the lo ng lost brother of Zakk Wylde, and Sullivan has always longed to sing like Janis Joplin, but can't quite manage the whiskey.
The 'Bee have been extremely busy over the past year. Apart from producing an award winning video clip (screened on Rage and banned in the UK), the band also recorded their first EP with Tony Wall (ARIA nominated for his work with Skunkhour).
On top of all this MEATBEE have played some pretty wild gigs. The band has packed out local venues with hundreds of punters moshing along to old favourites such as "Marvin" and "Gamera". They have also been regulars at Amanda Easton's 'Poptarts' at the Empire hotel in Annandale, and have shared bills with performers such as Slava Grigoryan, Tim Farriss, Morgana (ex Nitocris), Robin Lao, an d Oblivia.
MEATBEE have always maintained their electric onstage performances. They have gone so far as to allow Lopez on stage in tight flourescent orange fur pants, LeBlanc matching this with furry orange wrist cuffs and pigtails. Bigg-Wither and Sull ivan, not to be outdone, use body paint and fur boas just to keep up.
But if the costume design isn't enough, just wait until you hear the music. With a rhythm section more funky than a tub of butter left out in the midday sun, a lead guitarist more frenetic than a bunch of eight year olds at a Spice Girls concert, and a vocalist more tasty than a cheese and ham toasty for breakfast, the 'BEE is ready to unleash its sting.
Listen for the buzz, bee impressed.

Press Reviews
The last time I heard Meatbee I thought they had a great sound, but that after a few songs it became a tad... wearing.
But at the launch they sounded a lot more varied, which kept the momentum going through the set.
Up in the media gallery there was some speculation that they'd added a "Redletter" element to their guitars.
If they have then just maybe we're seeing the long awaited birth of a "Canberra Sound".
I asked a member of Redletter about it:
"They're starting to sound a little like you"
"Yeah, they're sounding good tonight" he replied.
He is a cheeky one.
Their bluesey vocals with metal guitars and pounding drums actually managed to set the room alight.
At the same time I remember looking at them on that stage, in that palace of glittering liars and thinking "this band is far, far to honest to be playing in a place like this".
I've had enough of glittering lies, attractive as they may be. 'm |
