Artist History
Cherelle Jardine comes on with the rocking intensity of Sas Jordan and occasionally reminds the listener of vocal styles as varied as Chrissy Hynde, Carlene Carter and Sheryl Crow. It is more accurate to say that Jardine possesses the talent to become as successful as the above mentioned females to world wide music lovers. Singer, songwriter, arranger, producer."Perseverance pays off, if you believe enough in yourself." Cherelle exemplifies that. She's a strong determined woman, who loves what she does, and has every intention of succeeding. The road towards a musical career began early for Toronto born Cherelle Jardine. At eight she was introduced to the piano at a friend's house and she was hooked. At fourteen she wrote her first song and three years later she began to play guitar. Aside from all of three vocal lessons in her life, Cherelle remains self-taught in music, noting that "lessons are good to begin with, to give you the fundamentals, but it's also important to explore what your heart and mind say, without rules, without restrictions."After a brief stint in a band environment, with AZ IZ in 1992, Cherelle decided upon the solo route to pursue the rest of her career. Seizing the opportunity to trade volunteer time at Bullfrog Studios for valuable studio time, she recorded her debut solo release: 1993's Wanna Be With You, a six song demo. Cherelle also exercised the freedom of a solo artist to play wherever and whenever she could, growing more confident and honing her live skills with each performance. In 1994, Cherelle released her first full-length CD Born Naked. Working with Producer Gerry Gagnon. Cherelle put together a strong "official" debut, which was praised by Bruce Allen, saying, "I enjoyed the voyage". Reviewers praised the album. It was a busy time for Cherelle. The pace of her advancement as a professional musician quickened, with her acceptance to the board of the Pacific Songwriter's Association as Treasurer. Cherelle is active in the "behind the scenes" of British Columbia's musical community, having also been voted President of the Pacific Songwriter's Association in 1996 (as well as assisting in most capacities with the PSA newsletter Hook Line and Singer). In 1997, Cherelle also co-founded the Pacific Alliance of Independent Recording Artists, a non-profit society which co-ordinates the efforts of its members to network, support and promote their individual projects. Cherelle was also a director of Women In Music, and Salmon City Music, a Richmond, BC, based music group. Cherelle believes that the local music community should support each other in their career development.Cherelle hardly paused for breath before putting together a new band which would showcase the new batch of songs that were to pop up on her second independently released CD, Something Good Is Happening in 1998, an effort which received similarly glowing reviews as Born Naked.Bleeding Water is the 3rd CD in Cherelle's body of work. The new album is a departure for Cherelle, at least in terms of her development as a musician and as a storyteller. Cherelle retains the pop/rock sound her fans are familiar with, but adds a bolder mix of lyrical worldliness and emotional vision. Co-written with John Peacox, Cherelle has brought in some of the most respected names in Canada's music community to help interpret her new songs: Bazil Donovan (Blue Rodeo), David Sinclaire (Sarah McLachlan) Gerry Adolphe (Chilliwack, Jim Burns), Robbie Steininger (Megan Metcalfe), Steve Hall (Farmers Daughters).©2000 Cherelle Jardine. All rights reserved. |

Press Reviews
You know, past and present recordings and what "the man" says about me and my songs... Bleeding Water, 2000" I don't know which song is my favorite on this excellent album. More than solid, Cherelle Jardine and co-writer John Peacox have fashioned a smooth blend of indiegrrl rock full of expressive emotions that dig deep into the heart of introspection and unfold the world she lives in. The hooks are strong and memorable and guitarists Robbie Steininger and David Sinclair and Sidney Perez play with a warmth that captures these moments beautifully. Jardine's voice embraces each melody and carries these songs like angel kisses unfolding a revelation." -- Bryan Baker, Gajoob "Pop is a catch-all category here. Add street-smart and alternative shrewdness. It's not too difficult to accept that the Toronto-born Jardine, who now lives in Richmond BC, has been recording since 1993 and that this is her third album. With that experience comes a vocal confidence and caressing lyric interpretation of that of a veteran. Of course, her experience fronting a band from 1992 also goes in keeping with her nonchalant walk through this song material, all of which she wrote with well-known West Coast tunesmith John Peacox. Jardine also has an impressive lineup of session people. Blue Rodeo's Bazil Donovan (bass), Chilliwack's Gerry Adolphe (drums), Sarah McLachlan's David Sinclaire (guitars), Megan Metcalfe's Robbie Steininger (guitars) and Farmer's Daughters Steve Hall (keys). Jardine produced the set with Sidney Perez. All tracks are 100% Cancon and the use of the MAPL logo assures that. That soft-sell vocal presence should gain Jardine an open door at both campus and A/C radio. All tracks are radio friendly and key here are 'We Are Love', 'Joel', 'So Beautiful' and 'Inside The Silence'." -- WG-RPM volume 71#17 Aug 28 2000 Something Good Is Happening, 1998"Jardine has an edge to her, the singer-songwriter's voice makes her seem tough yet vulnerable, world-weary, but still excited to be making music." -- Mike Usinger, The Georgia Straight"Something good, nine songs, largely inspired by her own life, some intensely personal, are sustained by an up-beat quality. There has been tremendous growth since her debut CD, Born Naked. Something good is indeed happening." -- Linda Moore, Richmond Review Born Naked, 1994"I enjoyed the voyage." -- Bruce Allen"Jardine hits emotional notes without hitting cliché. An unpretentious, heartfelt recording. An impressive debut." -- The Chart"Jardine's debut album heralds a distinct new mainstream rock artist with an alternative groove, that sounds like tomorrow's radio." -- Jim Brown, West Coast Review©2000 Cherelle Jardine. All rights reserved. |
