Press Reviews
"Speaking of Denver pop bands--albeit in an entirely different vein--where the hell have Yellow Second been hiding? Evidently they live here, or at least it says so on their CD, but Still Small came out on Urban Achiever, out of Lyndhurst, New Jersey, and they aren't exactly a fixture on the local scene. Which is a crying shame. Partly Weezeresque, with an obvious love of the Fab Four and a willingness to bang hard on their instruments, Yellow Second sounds as if they should be on the radio. Like Yesterday. "Swingset" is a masterful slab of guitar pop heaven. "Sun Regrets Shining," while slightly more downbeat, still possesses a memorable hook, and for a moment, "Resolute" veers into Rocket From The Crypt territory. Good stuff. What still surprises is--where the hell did they come from? This band is far too polished and well-produced to have sprung full-grown from the brow of suburban Denver. They must have been playing somewhere, with someone, at some point. We suppose this is just more proof that we have a terminal case of head in ass disease. Well, let's shout it from the rooftops--power-pop is alive and well in Denver, and the Yellow Second variety is going to prove popular with college radio programmers nationwide. See if it doesn't. (If it doesn't, don't come back and be all nyahh nyahh. No one likes a jerk.)" -Jack Michaelson, Go-Go Magazine (October 2002) |
