SUBURBAN VOICE - May '98: Fast and frenetic and likely to get out of hand if it gets much faster. These small town Canadians stick to a loud/fast aesthetic, coming across like older NoFX or early Lagwagon. You've heard of wind-spitting punks? This is wind-sprint punk as they tear through their songs with unbridled speed and enthusiasm, while also dipping into the metal roots for "Down The Tubes" - that's track #666 on your program, between #5 and #7. No lack of burn, although not totally differentiating itself either. Lyrical smarts, though, contrasting the overzealous harassment of, say, skateboarding, while rampant pollution in the area goes unpunished. Their hearts are in the right place anyway. SECOND LAST - January '98: Hailing from the small town of Whitby, (now from big-time Toronto), this Canadian quartet released their new ep "Canadian Gothic" on Raw Energy, earlier this summer. The cd insert is much like looking through an old photo album... from pictures of school, to Bronte Creek Park, to even the Whitby Mental Health Centre. Their contrast in the themes of their songs are as scattered as their pictures in the insert. From the song "Grade Nine Slut", which is a witty depiction of youth adolescent promiscuity, to the song "Livers In A Dangerous Time", a song about alcoholism in the family, Out Of Hands comical style of lyrics dominate the serious, deeper meaning. The ten aggressively speedy tracks clock in at just over 25 minutes, giving a diagnosed ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) teen a wholesome listen. RHIG - February '98: More Canadian punk rock to toss to the hungry teenage, angst ridden masses. The kids will eat this up for sure. What to say about Out Of Hand? Fast punk/pop, rock with real melody and nasty attitude - but hasn't that been said about all the punk bands that have surfaced in the last two years? Maybe so, but there seems to be something appealing about this Whitby, Ontario quartet. There is something genuinly uplifting about the music they play. Head for the pit when the music starts playing, kids. OUT OF HAND "Reserection" November 2nd 1999, Raw Energy Records.Few bands have a good sophomre album, with a few exceptions (Marilyn's Vitamins, Pennywise) and now Out of Hand. The Whitby foursome have improved both their instrumental sound and their vocal style to their advantage. The overall result is a flawless CD that will leave you singing along hours after the CD is over. This CD is completely mind blowing. "Reserection" is truly an album that should be played at the highest volume possible. From the first song "Lulu", the band grinds throug 13 new songs, 1 old song and 2 secret songs, that are pretty much instrumental. Out of Hand threw a few personal songs, such as "Take One for the Team", which is about Chris getting jumped by three guys in front of his house. And "Don't Steal my Beer" which is Corts song about friends that steal his beer when they run out.In conclusion, I highly reccomend you pick up "Reserection" because it is just totally amazing. It recieves a rating of 10 out of 10. DEJECTED FANZINE - ....The overall beat is fast, and at times awkward, but after a few spins their sound is impossible not to get into. Sung with gruff, yelling style vocals, some songs are of the NYHC influence making Out of Hand an extremely worth while band.~xjenx bator (Dejected Fanzine)
