Press Reviews
MoseyFlatlandsIf you hanker for a modern take on that Tom Petty/Byrds sound (maybe with a touch of the Beatles, Gin Blossoms and Paul Westerberg), Mosey has it down. This roots-rock band -- bassist Mike Campbell, guitarists Jack Leaver and Dave Stanton, and drummer Todd Truman -- accentuates its delectable pop/rock with strong harmony vocals and engaging lyrics on this independently produced debut.Petty himself might have a hard time rejecting the charms of "Out of Touch," "Flatlands," "Isn't She The One?" or "Reverie," which says a lot for the songwriting talents of this band, whose members hail everywhere from the Grand Rapids area to Ann Arbor. Mosey unveils its new CD and performs about 10 p.m. Friday at the Radio Tavern, 661 Bridge St. NW in Grand Rapids.Although parts of "Flatlands" have a country feel, it's hard to keep the rock edge from bleeding through, especially on the piano-pounding "Kissaway." The only blemish (other than liner notes that mix up the song order) might be the lack of a fuller sound found through multiple layering of additional instruments on big-budget, major artist releases. So toss some bulging bankrolls Mosey's way, and who knows what they could do. -- John Sinkevics, |
