Artist History Combining the pop sensibilities of artists such as big star and the replacements with the country heart of acts like willie nelson and buck owens, Wayne Supergenius formed in october of 1999 out of the ashes of alt.rock fav's cole. and the polins. Cole., having played with fuel,live,spacehog, and del amitri to name a few was well on their way to becoming the next central PA signing. And then the infamous hand of fate took hold. After the demise of cole. lead singer/songwriter tony ryder generated a small buzz among some label types with an 11 song acoustic demo that spawned the birth of Wayne Supergenius. Meanwhile, john fritchey and tony melchiorre of the polins, who had recently found themselves in the grips of the similiar hand of fate and had befriended mike passariello and tony ryder of cole. found that in such times, a man needs drink, song and a rehearsal room to foster that friendship and musical likeness. Collectively drawing on influences as wide ranging and unhip as the eagles, burt bacharach, the replacements, gram parsons, jackson browne and merle haggard, the 4 went to stress free studios where they created a 5 song demo with the help of sal saunders on pedal steel and engineering whizkid marshal deasy, that has continued to garner critical acclaim from industry types such as eric "roscoe" ambel (touring guitarist for steve earle and co-owner of cowboy technical services studio in williamsburg, NY [ryan adams, bottle rockets, syd straw]) as well as virgin records, ricky leigh mensch of hits magazine, nick bull formerly of EMI records and velvel, and superfan claudine delorenzo, PD for wqxa 105.7 the X. Wayne Supergenius is currently preparing for the release of their first full length album.
