    Artist description
A REFLECTION ON SWEET AND SOUR:At one of our first public appearances, I suggested to the MC that he introduce the ?Sweet and Sour? idea as one that ?symbolized our sweetest days and darkest nights.? And it was a boding statement, for what we were to become was an ambiguous collection of personality and an intersection of musical interests, that would in any other context, repel one another. And this is so telling of our music. Sweet and Sour projects personality; that is to say, through this band, each member articulates an aspect of himself through piano roll, drum beat, guitar riff, or bass line. Listen to the various tracks?the magic occurs in what simultaneously moves through time. All at once, the callow romanticism, the simple and digestible melo dies of Eric irresistibly push upon the listener?s ears. This happens as Eugene and Rod force intelligent complexity and musicianship into a seductive groove while Reggie (the veritable ?&? in ?Sweet & Sour?), at all times, mediates the backbeat and beco mes the vehicle upon which this sound drives forward.Through these four members, Sweet and Sour completes a musical fusion that echoes of the post-hair Beatles (indeed Reggie shares Ringo?s B-day of 7/7). A dynamic relationship of opposites exists within Sweet & Sour, and in my proudest moments, I equate this with the way Paul and John captured the widest of audiences. By providing a sound that was at the same time immediately identifiable yet different, at the same time simple yet profound, and a sound that at points compelled you to engage in chorus but was at all times, catchy and memorable, Sweet and Sour is bound to reach you.The charm of Sweet and Sour Music (which is simultaneously the hardship of band practice) is the beauty of its opposition. Again, while we stand for youth (In This House) we stand for growth (Anthem for Not-Doomed Youth). Where the manifestation of romantic love is celebrated (Once Again), the falling apart of troubled relationships are lamented (Act 5, Scene iii). Sweet a nd Sour, beyond all else, epitomizes the transitions in life that are inherently difficult to grasp, and at their core, ambiguous. However, out of this ambiguity, we are compelled to project our own moments of great uncertainty and sadness but also to re joice in moments of youthful triumph. The playful interaction of ideas, of experience, and of talent conjures a sound that is refreshing. Beyond what you hear, know that the unity of this band doubles as familial; although we are determined by genes to be together, through our own choice, we are united with Gene, and it is at this juncture that we take the most pride: our oneness as a musical entity and as friends.-Rodney Albertol
