Artist History
Scars Of Life is a powerful five-piece groove-oriented metal band that emphasizes depth in musical style and emotionally-charged meaning in its lyrics. This quintet hails from South Florida, and is currently taking the music scene by storm, propelling its music to new heights daily.
After the disbanding of Confined, a Florida metal band which featured four of the five members of Scars Of Life, the band formed in late 2000 with Kyle Shapiro on vocals, Jason Rodman on drums, Anthony Parrinello on guitar, Joe Raio on guitar, and Al Torres on bass. The group entered Studio 13 in Deerfield Beach, FL, and recorded their debut CD in January 2001 with Jeremy Staska (Poison The Well, New Found Glory, Nonpoint). In April of 2001, Al Torres decided to leave the band to pursue other ventures (later forming Eversinceve--check out www.eversinceve.com). After months of grueling tryouts for the vacant bass slot, the search ended with good friend Mike Kennedy. He became the group’s new bass player in mid-June 2001. The group then played small gigs around the South Florida area for the next few months to get their name across the state.
In January 2002, Scars of Life's debut CD, "Mute", was independently released to much critical acclaim. The initial response has been more than encouraging, with several great reviews being given by local magazines, as well as an impressive amount of airplay on local radio stations.
Since the release of "Mute", the band has had the opportunity to share the stage with a number of national acts, including Coal Chamber, 40 Below Summer, Ill Nino, Drowning Pool, Taproot, Pulse Ultra, Project 86, Otep, Noise Therapy, E-Town Concrete, and Florida's own Poison The Well, Endo, Darwin's Waiting Room, and Crossbreed.
Scars of Life also had the distinct honor of being picked by Inside Sessions (www.insidesessions.com) to play the Augusta, Georgia, stop of the Locobazooka Tour with other great acts such as Sevendust, Filter, Nonpoint, Earshot, Mushroomhead, Audiovent, Dry Cell, Dragpipe, and Mad at Gravity.
The band's debut disc was honored as the first ever Planet Radio 92.1 CD of the Month for March 2002. This was a special honor to Scars Of Life, for the CD of the Month was picked by the fans.
September 2002 saw the release of Scars Of Life's 2nd CD, simply titled 2002 Demo. They held their CD release party at the Culture Room in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, on September 21, 2002 to a capacity crowd! The band was also featured on www.kingsofar.com for September 2002.
Scars Of Life also rounded up some endorsements and licensing deals in late 2002. They are proudly endorsed/sponsored by GHS Strings and Just Promotions (www.justpromotions.com). They also signed a licensing deal with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), which will use S.O.L. music on pay-per-view events, soundtracks, video games, and anything else UFC-associated.
The band has made quite an impact in late 2002. The group's songs are constantly reaching #1 on the nu-metal charts on www.mp3.com, with an impressive amount of downloads daily. Scars Of Life also had the honor of being selected as South Florida's #1 unsigned band for 2002 on 94.9 WZTA.
The band just got out of the studio with their new CD, Another Tomorrow. They are currently shopping it to various labels. The future is wide open and full of potential for this impressive group, and they will not rest until people everywhere have heard Scars of Life.
What do the critics have to say about SOL?:

"I have to say that this is one of the best-sounding CDs that I have heard come from a local band." - Skweels (www.floridaunderground.net)
"Witness the birth of yet another Southeastern band primed to plow into mainstream success and prescribe their lethal injection of hard rock to thousands nationwide." - Ryan Potts (www.digital-noise.net)
"Their music is real, their lyrics are real, they are just great all around in many aspects" - Raychul (www.nosebleed17.com)
"For the sake of the music world, this band needs to get signed." - Chris Williams (www.decoy-online.com)

Press Reviews
Inverse Music: April 2002:: South Florida's Scars Of Life battle back with a brilliant second effort. Their highly anticipated 2002 demo lived up to all the hype surrounding its release. They've recorded 4 new tracks, Pool Of Fears, Silent Words, Lost Years, and Water In My Hands for the EP and they're all nothing short of perfect. A much more mature group has emerged from the studio this time and brought a gaggle of new fans with them. How this band hasn't signed a major label deal remains one of the world's great mysteries.
Vocalist Kyle Shapiro's voice has improved dramatically from their 2000 release "Mute". A much more mellow Kyle is backed by a seemingly more aggressive band. This album is heavier than their debut but more technical at the same time. Rolling kick drums, pound throughout the disc. Making the choppy, rumbling guitar parts that much more apparent. Dueling guitarists Anthony Parrinello and Joe Raio bring all they have to this demo, leaving nothing out, and keeping you in the moment on every track. Drummer Jason Rodman, and Bassist Mike Kennedy add their flavor to the disc with exceptional rhythm and the low-end thickness the first record lacked.
While some people may consider Scars Of Life another "nu-metal" band, they are much, much more. Clean melodic vocals over a distorted backdrop aren't all they appear to be with this band. The songs are at times soft and allow Kyle's voice to soar but they also bring an almost Fear Factory-like attack blending quickly picked guitar riffs with snapping kick drums. Scars Of Life are 5 musicians that know exactly what their doing, and don't attempt to fit in with the crowd. On the acoustic "Silent Words" the band decided to put away the amps and pedals, and show the emotion that got them where they are today. A haunting tale of loss and self-doubt laid before you, holding nothing back. If this song doesn't reach you, what will? Scars Of life will break out very soon, and will finally receive the much-deserved attention they've been after. I suggest you check them out today.
