Artist description
A few thousand watts of overdriven amplification, a handful of psychedelic inspiration and a garage in need of insulation were a few of the key ingredients necessary to meld these four unique musicians into a single group. Ray Barnett sings, plays guitar and writes; Carlton Duff plays guitar and writes; Ethan Osborne plays drums and sings back-up; while Greg Bowers plays bass and writes. Rainbowtruth began performing in clubs on the East Coast, concentrating their attention in the Mid-Atlantic region. Along with the Spring of '95 bloomed the bands first recording, an eponymous EP engineered by Larry Bailey of Plastic Jesus Studios . The songs--"Enlightened," "Five Minutes in Tubeland" and "Jesus"--offered a early glimpse into an unusual sound which is at once heavy, psychedelic and soulful. This recording received notable regional airplay and served as a quick fix for the band's growing fan base as well as an introduction to thousands of others. After a brief regional tour in support of the EP, the members of Rainbowtruth began writing material for their debut national release, "over the counter and though the woods." The album was recorded from January to July of '96 by Chris Salamone in his 24-track studio in Fredericksburg and mastered by Eddy Shreyer of Oasis Mastering in Studio City, CA. Included are the songs "Fly Away," "Killing with Kindness," "Utopia or Bust," "Tracy," "Occupation: Freak Magnet," "Peasants," and "Wait Until Tomorrow." When asked to describe the album, Barnett responds, "One of the reasons we recorded this album was so that we could do less talking about what we sound like, and people could do more listening to decide for themselves."He's right; Rainbowtruth has been described as "retro," "alternative," "heavy," "psychedelia," and "modern rock." In reality, these are just marketing categories— words designed to put an art of sound into a tight little box. The only box this band is concerned with is the jewel box as it's opened to listen to their music. |

Press Reviews
"Their powerful blend of heavy blues, subculture alternative, psychedelia and modern rock exceeds any marketing category....Ray Barnett's vocals literally are mesmerizing...Something is intriguing about listening to a band few people know about today and wondering what will become of them tomorrow. The fact that I came away...with such an energizing experience leads me to believe Rainbowtruth might be going somewhere." -Pitch Magazine"Lead singer Ray Barmett has that medium deep vocal thing that seems to make it easier to get your woman into bed. He has a blues style like a Hendrix/Robert Cray combo...The band always seems to verse out heavy subject matter. They're definitely not the typical upbeat contemporary pop. Not at all..."-Pulp Radio Magazine"I'm impressed with the intricate musical arrangements. Ray Barnett sings with a full set of pipes and a powerful heart. These vocals are very large and rival the precise work of King's X or Chris Duarte.Pitch Magazine"...hair flipping, gratuitous guitar solos, more hair flipping, and a '70s-style revolving multi-color light. Yow!"-CVille Weekly"This band is absolutely fantastic in concert....The sound is of a twisting and turning speed inducing nature which inspires even the most subdued to show his or her brazen side. ...Rainbowtruth gets my approval as performers bringing a heart-pounding sound to the stage. I highly recommend seeing them live."-The Bullet"Very impressive...I'd love to see these guys at an outdoor concert."ORB Confidential |
