Artist History
Nigel Williams was born in Trinidad and raised in St. Maarten where his love of music, especially the guitar, was sparked while hanging hotels and clubs listening to local musicians. He attended the prestigious Berklee College of music in Boston where he graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education. After graduation, Nigel spent a year in Boston perfecting his craft playing with various bands and often at Walley's, a popular spot with musicians.He returned to St. Maarten in 1997 to teach at the Andante Music School where he currently works with approximately 25-30 students. While guitar is his main instrument, he also teaches drums, keyboards and saxophone.When not teaching, Nigel devotes his time to "Colors" a popular group in both St. Maarten and the neighboring islands. He frequently travels to St. Barths and Antigua where he plays with the Dorsett group. Nigel spends his summers in Boston playing with various bands.A sought after musician, Nigel has recorded with many artists including in St Maarten:T-Mo, Tonca, Youmay, Dread-I, Carol Hodge of Osha and in the States: Ian Martin and Balla, an African artist. He has played with the Mighty Sparrow and Percy Sledge, Nestor Torres, Saffron Obois, Jam Down, Hot like Fire, Iwer George. He has opened for Maxi Priest, the Fat Boys, Whodini, and Tony Rebel.Nigel's debut CD "Dreamin' Out Loud" was released in June '99.The self produced CD features many artists from St. Maarten, Antigua performing songs by Marley, Santana, Benson all of whom have influenced Nigel musically. Nigel is currently working on his second CD due out in late '00. |
