Artist History
Lyrical Lizard, a name being heard buzzing throughout the Midwest. J.Guthrie aka Lizard to most was born April 18th, 19** in Gary, Indiana home to mega superstar Michael Jackson. He graduated with RB's sensation Jesse Powell. Growing up he was destined to entertain the world with his multiple talents. At the age of 7, he was already performing for the mass audiences in the church and school talent shows, just as the Jackson family did in the early 70's. Lyrical Lizard was a pure natural when it came to music and at the age of 12 he saved up enough money to purchase his first set of Technic 1200 turntables. As a DJ he swarmed the early and mid-eighties scene doing local house parties and entering contests such as Battle of the DJ's hosted out of East Chicago. Learning all the tricks of the trade from watching then a newcomer to Chicago based radio station WGCI, Bad Boy Bill, Julian Jumpin Perez, and a local DJ from the group Los Marijuanos, Ponyboy. He picked up mixing and scratching with ease but knew deep down inside he wanted to do more than spin records. As the rap scene began growing quickly, Lizard began writing rhymes and performing at house and rap parties. As 1989 came around, he was more than impressed by a new rapper to hit the spotlight by the name of Slick Rick. As the 1990's rolled around, Dr. Dres "The Chronic" album began tearing up the airwaves and rap was taking on a darker side. That didn't stop Lyrical Lizard from sticking to his love for Story Telling Rap. Living and seeing all the struggles of street life in Gary wasn't easy. His comedic rhymes were simply a way to escape all the drama that surrounded him. Listening to his music, you can still get a feel for the streets, but in a unique style of hip hop. Still old school to the heart, the millenium was about to hit and Lizard had still not crawled out from under his rock. As a few years passed, he began to wonder if success would ever come to him. With the ups and downs of the streets, there were doubts his dream would ever come true. Determined to get out and away from all the drama, he put it all behind him and in 2000 started dropping local singles in the studio. "Where I'm from, it's kind of hard to record when your'e to the curb." he said but that wasn't going to stop him from achieving his lifelong dream. "Age ain't nothing but a number and as long as it's still in my heart, I am determined to do this." As of 2001, Lyrical Lizard has dropped such singles as "Gat Rappin' " a song about dealing with life's struggles in Gary, Indiana. "Luney Tunez" a comedic cartoon rap, and his latest "Caught up", a rhyme about when he did some time. At the present he is hard at work finishing up songs for his debut release, looking to be complete by Spring 2002. "With the grace of God. I will get this cd finished and somebody out there will feel me." Lyrical Lizard has already been looked at by such major labels like Epic records in New York. And if given the chance with the right people and a whole lot of faith, Lyrical Lizard will be the first solo rap artist to blow up the Midwest and take the world by storm. |
