Artist description
“When people ask us what kind of music we’re into, we usually reply, ‘Good Music!’” That’s the response Jeff Mertick has for those whoinquire about the music King Street Healers enjoy. Mertick (guitar, vocals) along with Bob Dreher (drums), Dan Thorson (bass) andJason Fiske (guitar, vocals) create a style of music that at times reaches into classic stylings of rock, funk, blues and folk only to projecta style that is all their own. King Street Healers (formerly Blue Fish Revue) have been playing together in Regina for over a year and a half, with members comingtogether after playing shows in a number of different bands. King Street Healers can be found at various venues and events aroundRegina. Their energy and interplay is best captured during their live performances, which has built “The Healers” a loyal following thatseems to grow with each show. Members of the King Street Healers run the gamut of a large number of influences, some individually, but most collectively. Importantcollective influences include Led Zeppelin, James Brown, the Black Crowes, Van Morrison, Lenny Kravitz, Bob Dylan, Sly and the FamilyStone, Neil Young, Muddy Waters, and Jimi Hendrix. These artists represent those who’ve created a wide variety of songs in differentstyles similar to those of King Street Healers. The band focuses on arrangements of their original songs creating a layer of sounds that compliment the song. This is not a band thathammers the same four chords simultaneously throughout a song. King Street Healers put great importance on the structure andarrangement of the song. This is a band that loves music. “When we play live, like most bands, we want to include the crowd in the venue with all we do,” says Fiske. “That ‘s what playing live isall about. Our goal is to entertain people while playing music they can enjoy and relate to. We play a variety of music and try to readthe mood of the crowd and figure out what they want to hear. That said, our shows are almost always high energy and at the end of thenight, we like to use the old cliché of leaving them begging for more.” King Street Healers are a hard working band that puts a great deal of importance on professionalism. It is their goal to take their musicas far as they can. With the band currently in the process of recording and distributing their own CD, the band continues to look forwardto opportunities that arise and the music they can create along the way. |
