Artist description
Fungusamungus creates a smooth combination of catchy melody and rocking guitars over a funky rhythm section. Mix well and cook for 20 minutes. They've been playing southern Wisconsin clubs to energetic crowds since 1993. Their 1998 self-titled CD is available through their website and a new CD is in progress. Check out a demo... the Fungus will grow on you... |

Press Reviews
www.maximum-ink.com/archive/98/sep/html/cd-02.htmlFungusamungus Fungusamungus(HardKnocks Records)With a comfortable, lived-in feel, Fungusamungus' self-titled disc harks back to a style that feels familiar and friendly. In contrast to the dense, rebellious music that covers the disc, Fungus' lyrics bring up friends and familiar frequently. But contrast is no stranger to this Madison quartet, in fact, Dave, Doug, Matt and Mike touch upon so many different ideas the question becomes who, indeed, are Fungusamungus. Woodsy, nimble, majestic - with a touch of the baroque - Fungus' sound veers from the space race slingshot of "Interplanetary" to "Mr. Hey," a new wave rockabilly number. Shannon Hoon, Ian Anderson and Phil Lynott merge in the voice of Dave Welch who also concocts a chameleon stew of an Austin Powers riff here and a B.O.C. cliffhanger there. It is as invasive and prevalent as... a fungus. From the bright as a penny "Sunshine Daydream," to the feet dragging protest of "Don't Take Me There," it is hard to pin down these rock `n roll roustabouts. Within each song they are wizards and champions, but as a whole it is ironic to find a self-titled disc with thirteen different selves.John Noyd |
