Artist History
Some people search the world for the blues, some people couldn't escape the blues if they tried. Some people go to the Delta and look high and low for their own personal Crossroads, to make their own deal to learn to play their own blues. Billy Marquis never learned the Blues, Billy Marquis earned the blues.Billy still lives in the Delta because no matter where else Billy might go, the Delta would follow. A hot, steamy Delta that never lets you forget what the Blues is about. Pain. Sorrow. Misery. The kind of misery that lies deep in a man's soul, in his blood and in his bones and never, NEVER lets him rest. The deep down wrenching blues that can only lead to death, destruction, or the most gut-wrenching, deep cleansing, soul purifying music this side of the grave. That's the blues that Billy Marquis plays. The blues is so deep inside Billy that it's as much a part of him as his skin. He doesn't just play a guitar, either. That Strat is as much a part of Billy as an arm or a leg is a part of most people. The sounds that Billy pulls from inside that guitar are the sounds of his soul, pulled from his body and filtered through the deep thick Delta soil. And THAT is what the Blues is. |

Press Reviews
The Enterprise Tocsin - Indianola, MS It's not B.B. King, but it's not bad either. In fact, Indianola bluesman Billy Marquis' first studio album "The Blues and Beyond" is good. Marquis, 46, is a rookie only to the studio, not to the road, and definitely not to the blues. Troubled by the thought of forever being a forgettable opening act for B.B. at his Homecoming every year or the frontman of some nameless wedding reception cover band Marquis decided it was time to explore his own blues or in his words: "time to either put up or shut up" The grueling four-day session in West Memphis, AR this June-a cheerful collection of six original and five covers - express where Marquis was spiritually and musically at the time ot the recording |
