Artist description
Three players improvising music freely. A huge variety of instruments (acoustic and electronic) and extended vocal techniques are employed. The players communicate with each other soundlessly using a set of visual iconic symbols. Every show is recorded. Afterwards, audio samples are made from the recording to be used as raw material for the next show. Each show is a numbered "part," a segment of The Magic Number's overall existence. Every performance builds upon the last, and a repertoire/reservoir is amassed. |

Artist History
Founded in 1998 by Hatim Belyamani, Shawn Feeney and David Horn in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Fifteen shows (or "parts") were performed over the following two years. Collaborations included music with video, dance, poetry - all improvised. The year 2001 finds the 3 members of The Magic Number in 3 different countries across the globe. To overcome the obstacle of distance, The Magic Number has created this Remix site. It includes remixes of past performances by the 3 band members, sometimes composed and/or combined using chance or improvisatory methods. |
