Artist description
The AirGuitar is light-sensitive; sensitive to the continual minute changes of sunlight during the course of a day. Light-intensity can be modulated directly by throwing shadows on the sensors or by changing the angle of the instrument to the light source. Six sensors are used to convert varying light-intensity into corresponding midi data streams. The streams are parsed, filtered and directed toward specified music parameters. The Instrument is conceived for live performance and made its debut in November 1999 in NYC. All tracks are unedited one-pass stereo recordings of a FM tone generator with reverb unit. All tone, reverb and mix level modulations are linked directly to light-intensity fluctuations during performance. There is no post-production. |

Artist History
In addition to a half dozen public performances, the AirGuitar has been in 3 hands-on exhibitions at which documentary video recorded numerous people making acquaintance with the sound of the Instrument. There are three AirGuitars, each with its peculiar shape and color. There is also an 'ORB' which was set up at a benefit for ABC no Rio performance space on the lower eastside where several people played simultaneously. |
