Artist History
megillahMegillah, founded in the Summer of 2000 by the brothers Sweeney and Johnathan Sage, is three fifths of the pop band de Schmog. Megillahsolidified its musical relationship as the backbone of de Schmog, which won many honors during an eight year stretch of the Nineties includingFuture Jackpot pick from CMJ, favorable reviews in Spin / Alternative Press, and Band of the Year Awards from both the Public News critics andreaders. de Schmog produced and sold over 2,000 CD's and cassettes including de Schmog Fairytale – a forty minute rock opera of love, marriage, loneliness, and sexual confusion. When de Schmog front gal Diane Koistenin moved to New York City, Johnathan and the Sweeneys decided to trim down and continue as athree piece. They want to keep recording and traveling as a band doing what they do and love best. They spent six months building a set aroundtheir new line up, inspired by the same bands that got them into the "business" to begin with – such trios as the Meat Puppets (whose line upthey resemble since Christian and Kilian are brothers), the Minutemen, and the Who (at least instrumentally the Who is a trio). megillah decidedto record the material in a manner that suited the Meat Puppets a decade and a half before…as close to live as possible and in record speed tokeep the energy and spontaneity alive. The trio is touring to support this CD …any excuse to meet live music fans; see the country; and playmusic would do.Megillah hopes to follow this with another CD and more touring. They plan to travel, play and record as much as they can for as long as they can. |
