Artist History
Lockdown first formed in October of 2000 when founding members, vocalist, James Annucci and guitarist Patrick Ronayne, were set on starting a metal band with an entirely new, raw sound. But lets take it back a little, to the year 1999. James and pat were acquaintances at this point and had no idea of the others respective musical talents. James was currently the rhythm guitarist/back-up vocalist in the hard rock sextet, "Odyssey," while Pat, who had just moved from Brooklyn a few months earlier, was looking for someone to jam out with. James and "Odyssey" had just put out their first demo cd and were looking forward to a summer of gigs. But, although the cd received much critical acclaim, the band never got off its feet and soon afterwards, James departed from "Odyssey" (who later became "the fury"). He was struggling to find anybody to hook up with musically. Pat, at this point, was in the heavy metal band, "Dark Horizon" with Lockdown's lead guitarist Greg Simon. Pat was the drummer in the band, and Greg, who had only been playing guitar for about a year and a half, was shredding like a pro. "Dark Horizon" played the local battle of the bands in early 2000 in which they tore up the venue, only to be beaten out by a whiny, alternative trio. Soon after the event, "Dark Horizon" was dissolved and Ronayne and Simon went their separate ways for the time being. James was pursuing side project after side project, one of which with Greg Simon, but just didn't get that special feeling with any of them. In the summer of 2000, James and Pat finally got together and started jamming on some riffs they had each wrote, and some of their favorite songs by Megadeth, Metallica and Pantera. They both knew something big could come out of this. In the late summer, Pat called up guitarist Ed Kozietek and a trio was born. James was the singer, Pat, rhythm guitar, and Ed, lead. The band started off well, but without a drummer and bassist, they were going nowhere. They put up adds for a drummer and bass player in all the local music stores, but to no avail. Then, quick thinking Pat, remembered a drummer named Donald Pusateri who he had played with in the schools wind ensemble. Donald, who also drummed in the schools jazz band, gladly accepted the invite. James came up with name, "Lockdown" and Don, Pat, and Ed liked it enough for it to become the official band name. Lockdown was almost complete, but when personal differences led to the departure of Ed, the band was back to a trio. Pat called Greg Simon and asked to jam with them. James and pat both jammed with a bass player named Torey Pirolo, and thought they might give him a call too. That was the final piece to the Lockdown puzzle. At their first practice as a whole, the song, "Awkenening" was written in a matter of an hour; lyrics and all. The boys knew this was going to go somewhere. In January of 2001, Lockdown cut their first demo cd, with three brand new, heart filled hard rock songs. The EP was embraced by almost everyone who heard it. In February 2001, the next month, Lockdown shocked everyone (including themselves) when they were named the winners of the 2001 Syosset High School Battle of the Bands, beating out some pretty tough competition in a decidedly "Rap/Hip Hop/Boy Band" community. Now, they boys are off becoming men. James and Greg attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, Torey is at Marist, and Pat has enlisted to become a US Marine. Don is still in high school (poor bastard). They continue to write new material to further themselves as the powerhouse that they are. They hope to make an impact on music history as the dawn of a new millennium gives way to the dawn of a musical revolution. |
