Artist description
Only once every few decades a talent of the calibre of Cary Grace appears. Her voice is unique, mesmerizing, and unforgettable. It has the quality of fine linen. It has the warmth of candlelight. It is as robust and smooth as fine aged Port. It lingers on the air. It holds like bonds. And it hordes endless nuances of emotion and feeling, secrets doled out by an oracle. In the same way, her very presence is somehow uncanny; by merely stepping onto a stage, she can silence a room--all eyes riveted, people attentive, snared by an air of almost mystical quality in her willowy and graceful china-doll statur |

Artist History
Cary Grace was born and raised near Columbia, South Carolina on her grandparents' farm, but both her parents were from the north. She is part Native American, but it was her German grandmother who taught her at home when she was a young child, and would read poetry and sing to her at night. Cary was encouraged to write and to sing as early as she can remember. But Cary saw things, and heard things--things that others didn't or couldn't see or hear. She was in tune and in touch with things in her environment that transcended the material and mundane. She became vitally interested in the things beyond our ken that pervade and influence life. That led her into a study of past cultures, including the Celts, and of their art and music, and of things mystical and spiritual. She took a profound interest in old Celtic and English folk songs, learning the intricate and haunting melodies and particularly rich, ethereal harmonies unique to that music. It is this rich mixture of heritage, cultural backgrounds, and self-pursued interests that has given rise to her own unique musical style. She learned to play guitar primarily by listening to Bob Dylan records, and developed a deep and abiding appreciation for his poetry and lyricism. "The gift he has for imagery always leaves me in awe," she says. Perhaps it was partly her love of Dylan that led her to song writing as an extension of her singing."There are songs all around us. It's just a matter of finding them. It's like coming across a pile of children's building blocks: all the pieces are there already, but you might rearrange them, stack them a different way, paint them different colors."But beyond being an exceptional singer and songwriter, Cary Grace is also a first-rate audio engineer and producer. She records and mixes her music with a computer, and is a self-proclaimed computer nerd. The format allows almost limitless flexibility in the recording and mixing process, affording her tremendous latitude in self expression and experimentation."I like to take a project from start to finish. Certainly I approach a song with an idea of what I want it to sound like, but it's a constantly evolving goal. Building tracks and mixing is like writing poetry with sound. When the lyrics and the rhyme-scheme are woven together perfectly, you know you have a good mix."Cary currently lives in Nashville, and is working on recording her first album, entitled "Book of Rhymes." She is seeking a record contract, but plans to release the album under her own label, Door 13 Records, by the end of the yea |
