Press Reviews
Though Mills attributes his success to God, it also is due in part to the fact that he is a talented songwriter who, with little formal musical training, is able to create melodic, polished songs of praise in a style that is his own. The music is generally mellow, but manages to stay interesting. The chord changes and vocal melodies are pleasantly unpredictable and the beats range from mid-tempo funk to fractured dub grooves. Though the disc covers a range of styles, Mills' voice unifies it. Mills' singing style is more jazz than R&B, more Sade than Jodeci. His voice and lyrics are not in-your-face, the way many gospel and R&B singers are and, in some ways, his music is more powerful because he gets the point across with subtlety. -Jared Featherstone, Lanham Gazette |
