Artist History
Rick had jammed with Jason and Mikey a few times and they always agreed they played some cool stuff when they got together, but nothing ever came of it. Then Jason and Mikey got a jam room close to where Rick lived, and the three decided to get serious about getting into clubs and whatnot, so they started working on songs in (I think) February, 2001. The band was to be called "Idiot" until Rick decided to set up an mp3.com page for the band. Of course the name "Idiot" was taken, so Rick decided to put PlanetIdiot as the URL shortcut so he could easily cross promote the band from his web page, PlanetIdiot.com. Jason and Mikey actually liked the name "Planet Idiot" better, so it stuck. By May, they had a 4 song demo recorded and turned in to Starbucks (where Jason works) for their battle of the bands competition. Jim Kiser joined the band shortly after as the lead guitarist. Planet Idiot was then selected to be one of six bands competing on June 6th, 2001 at the Vista Ridge Amphitheater where they came in 3rd place (1st place went to a band with four Starbucks employees in it :) go figure). Soon after, the band began writing more material to complete their set. After putting the set together, Planet Idiot was chosen to play at the Galaxy Club's band breakout show September 12th, 2001. The gig went all right, except for a lack of an audience (except for a few very special people). Shortly after however, Jim decided to leave the band. The group, once again a three-piece, turned their focus to fine tuning songs for the new set up in preperation for a second bout of recording. |
