    Artist History
Born in Chicago, in 1947, Alan started playing professionally in clubs at age 12. Three years later, he signed as a recording artist with Chess Records and released the single "It's You I'm Thinking Of". In 1965, he entered a music program at Roosevelt University and studied until 1967, when producer Paul Rothchild (Producer of The Doors, Paul Butterfield, Janis Joplin, etc.) chose him to become a lead singer, main songwriter and keyboardist for a group to become known as Rhinoceros. The release of two albums on the Elektra label brought Rhinoceros to tour North America with such names as Janis Joplin, BB King, Jefferson Airplane, Traffic, Jimi Hendrix, Steppenwolf, John Lee Hooker, Jeff Beck and others. In 1970-71, Alan released a solo album with Shelter Records that was distributed world-wide and toured with Leon Russel. In 1974, he released a single produced by André Perry in Montreal. "Tiend On" became number one in Québec and Alan toured the province in the wake of its success. In 1976, he wrote two songs for Bob Dylan's movie "Renaldo and Clara" and was invited to play with the famous Rolling Thunder Review in Québec. In 1979, he toured with Lou Reed in the United States. In 1980-81 Alan worked in Chicago for the "Let Us Entertain You" Network establishing a faithful following. In years that followed, his superb one-man show kept him busy in festival, clubs and theaters. From 1988 to '92 Alan put together the American Blues Tour in France where he established a home base. Back in Québec he recorded and released "Chicken Walk" in '94. "Fools That Try" was released in '97 when he also joined "Big Noise" a major music we site. In 1999 he released "The Boogie Man", created his own official web site, as well as established a fan base in Japan. In 2000, Alan joined Listen.com and established a fan base in Australia. In 2001, Alan participated in the Folk Alliance and toured across Canada. He is currently recording a live album as he continues to play about 60 performances a year in festivals, theaters and clubs.

Quote from Holgar Petersen who is the renowned host of "Saturday Night Blues" (CBC Weekly Radio Show), "Natch'l Blues" (CKUA Radio Show in Alberta) and the president of Stony Plain Records: "Seeing Alan Gerber perform live is a joyous experience. You can tell he loves to be in front of an audience and truly whips them into a frenzy. He's amazing!"... Quote from Al Rankin, executive talent co-ordinator since the beginning of the "Blue Skies" music festival: "Since the 28 years of the Blue Skies Music Festival, I have'nt ever seen the crowd boogie like they did tonight with Alan Gerber and his band. I knew it was going to be good, but I never even imagined it this good!"
