Artist description
Hard hitting progressive power trio, playing original songs in the style of Rush, Pink Floyd and Dreamtheater, but with a modern and personal twist, reflecting the talents and philosophies of the band. Though engineering a polished and professional CD of 10 songs entitled "Duress Codes", Domain's true forte is a captivating and energetic live show, with a very full sound for a trio. |

Artist History
In the beginning...
In 1999, Domain's original lineup (Wayne Jones on drums)reconvened after nearly 10 years of off and on, touch and go, back and forth. Practicing and playing as often as their varied schedules allowed (and where we could get our foot in the door), Domain established a local reputation for top-notch musicianship and developing a small but loyal base of support. Highlights included taping a segment on a local community access tv station in the Triad North Carolina in August of 2000(which still airs), self-releasing a 10 track sonic assault "Duress Codes," (Oct 2000) which has been well received by the faithful few (thanks to all!)and winning a battle of the bands (Ferrum College, VA) in April 2001.
Original drummer Wayne Jones left the band in late April 2001 to return to the Navy, leaving remaining members Mark and Donald to contemplate whether to continue.
That lasted all of two weeks as guitar-Mark is not one to sit around on his laurels. He promptly went out and found drummer Dave Gibbs, who was advertising his talents in a local music mag.
Actually, Dave was Mark's 3rd choice. After several misfires getting Dave's schedule online, Dave was broken "in" in good fashion. His first gig with Domain was a mulit-band festival on July 6th, 2001
that featured mainly deathmetal, for a younger crowd. Domain definitely stood out. Next, rehersals were on to prepare for recording (courtesy of the battle of the bands back in April)
a new song that guitarist Mark Jones had been working on. The new instrumental "Reference," (clocking in at a robust 9:50)was the 1st new composition with Dave at the helm. (visit mp3.com/UP_DOWN_STRANGE to hear it)
3 other songs were also recorded, "EVERY LITTLE THING" (The Police), "TOM SAWYER" (Rush) and a remake of "YOU SAY, I SAY." to round out the spare time.
Domain played its last gig on Sept. 29, 2001 at Stage 18 in Burlington, NC. Guitarist Mark suggested that a new name (it's actually an old name)
should represent the current configuration, as "Domain" never fulfilled its original intent.
Though the two sites will be bilaterally linked, the Domain page will not publish any new updates - visit the Link tab for the new site.
Thanks to all for your continued support of "Domain." |
