Artist description
Although it's not unusual for singer-songwriters to travel around the world, Nigel Parry has lived in some pretty strange and scattered parts of the world. Nigel lived from 1994 to 1998 in the Palestinian West Bank. There, he experienced things that most of us only get to watch on TV. And the intensity and beauty of the music that these places have squeezed out of this independent musician is rare. "Forget", a song written in the aftermath of violence and displacement, is both an uncomfortable and comforting song. Uncomfortable in that much of the subject matter is concerned with how the human spirit deals with violence and injustice. Comforting in that Nigel's reaction is, above all - human - and a reminder of what the song is really about, despite its title - remembering. An MP3 version of the debut live performance of Forget, on 16 January 1999, is available here. Haunting tunes, multi-layered lyrics, and boiling emotion are just part of this Scottish singer-songwriter's presentation.Nigel's debut CD, "This Side Of Paradise - Through a glass darkly: Bootleg tracks from the coffee bars of St. Paul, MN, 1999," was independently released via MP3.com on 6 February 2001. Plans are afoot to get a studio album together. In the meantime, the atmospheric live tracks of This Side Of Paradise give a glimpse into where this unusual singer-songwriter is heading. |
