Artist History
Omaha's Jimmy Skaffa was conceived in late 1992 by ex-members of local ska bands Knuckle Junction and the Porkpie Conspiracy. After the initial foundation of drums, guitar, bass and vocals was laid, the band soon added an additional guitarist, an additional vocalist and a horn section - some scene veterans and some newcomers. With its ten-member (!) lineup firmly in place, the band began crafting a body of songs which appeared on its eight-song cassette entitled Nobody Tells a Navy Man He's Had Too Much to Drink, released independently in November 1993.Jimmy Skaffa has continued to perform extensively during the past five years, sharing stages with reggae legends the Wailers and Black Uhuru, as well as with national acts the Toasters, Let's Go Bowling, the Scofflaws, MU330, Link 80 and Murphy's Law. The band's other live credentials include performances at the CMJ New Music Festival in New York, the Flatlander Music Festival in Omaha, SkaFest in Chicago and two appearances at the Mississippi River Music Festival in St. Louis. In addition to perfecting its live presentation, Jimmy Skaffa has expanded on its original creative concept, infusing subtle stylistic variations into the new batch of songs which appeared on the 1996 release of the 7" single Bitch on Sunday and on the full-length debut CD entitled Cliché, both of which were released on Omaha's Two Olive Martini Records. In addition, the band was recently noted in Guitar World magazine for its appearance on Chicago's Jump Up! Records' compilation, The Return of American Skathic - The Midwest Strikes Back! Nineteen ninety eight was an extremely busy and productive year for Jimmy Skaffa. The band forged a partnership with swing/ska juggernaut Slimstyle Records and recorded its second LP, Six Bullets Past Midnight, which is slated for a Spring 1999 release. Jimmy Skaffa has also contributed a song to a Swedish ska compilation (yet to be named) which is also due out this spring. In the meantime, the band will be barnstorming the Midwest and East Coast in anticipation of the new release, bringing its distinctive melange of styles and energetic live performances to the masses. |

These guys are excellent songwriters, keep an eye out for them."BAY AREA SKA HOMEPAGE"Jimmy Skaffa breaks through the common mold of third-wave ska, serving up an eclectic mix of styles and themes."KIRKSVILLE GAZETTE |
