Press Reviews
So much is impressive about the hardcore Baltimore band Seticide. I?ll start off with the lead singer. He roars, rages, and rants in a voice that is absolutely ic. I?ve never, ever given this kind of advice to a vocalist before, but listen to me very carefully, Mike or Edan (whichever one of you sings lead). Put those Flintstones Vitamins down right now ? I want you on a strict diet of cigarettes and coffee. Do everything you can to keep that razor-blade quality to your voice. You will get no more than three hours of sleep a night. Here, gargle with this glass of whiskey. Have you considered moving to a smoggier climate? I hear Los Angeles is nice. The music on Seticide?s debut CD, ?Out of the Dream,? matches that voice. Most of the songs start ominous and slow and then explode into a storm that fills your head and pours into your stream. There is no safe consistency to the pace. The first few songs are like riding a plane during turbulence. The plane shakes and bounces and then finally levels out. Just as you?re releasing your grip on the seat, the plane tosses again. Add some intelligent lyrics to the mix, and you?ve got more than mindless rage. The words express a struggle for . From ?Suffocate?: ?Sleep well, suffocate under your conformity as you inflict this pain, bruise by bruise, vein by vein, this pain will never heal these mental wounds, so what?s your excuse?? And from ?Your Eden,? which is a slower, melancholy cry about the inability of idealism to survive in this world: ?I see your stained glass prayers shatter and your feathered dreams fly away. I see your painful realizations scream your silence and prayer-lined cuts radiate what dreams can?t take away.? The final track, ?Out of the Dream,? is surprising in its even pace. It?s a hard rock song, but compared to the other tracks, it?s downright serene. This was a good song to include on the CD, as it shows the band?s versatility. Under the chaotic and careening pace, they are a talented and disciplined trio of musicians. |
