    Artist description
Split Habit is a power pop-punk group hailing from Chicago. The band formed in 1998 and have been touring the Midwest ever since. With Travis "Dickie" Brown on lead vocals and bass, Johnny Smoke on Guitar and backing vocals and Chris Michaels on the skins, Split Habit creates some of the most dynamic and catchy tunes to hit a CD in ages. While many of Split Habit's songs cover familiar territory (love lost, difficulties of growing up), their arrangements and signature song are anything but conventional. Whether it is Michael's hip-hop drumming, Smoke's sonic guitar blasts or Travis' honed voice, Split Habit brings a complexity to their albums and live shows that is rare in their genre. The group has opened for the likes of Stroke 9, MU-330 and Sum 41. July 2001 saw the release of their second EP, "Biting My Lip."

    Artist History
Chicago's power-pop sensations, Split Habit, have been tearing up stages all across the country since 1997. Combining the elements of acts like Blink 182 and The Beatles with a youthful exuberince Split Habit ALWAYS leaves their audience begging for more. The group has sold 2000+ copies of their debut CD 'Rockstar 101' solely on the strength of their live performance and is well on their way to selling 3000+ copies of their follow up EP 'E to the P'. Although the group has yet to be signed to a record label, it can't be far ahead for split-habit. Even critics like Monica Kendrick at the Chicago Reader are surprised that 'major labels (are not) sniffing at their snotty-teenage sounding butts'.

    Press Reviews
From Punkrockreviews.com Every once in a while I get a chance to check out a new band worth getting all excited about. About 2 weeks ago I picked up this little gem of an EP. Split Habit do an amazing job of mixing pop tendencies with emo intricacies to form what I consider to be the best EP of the year. "E To The P" manages to be as catchy as the winter flu without losing touch with their emo roots. The somewhat unusual vocals only make these four songs so much more appealing. The mid-tempo melodies are cleverly crafted into thick layers of addictive emo punk worth raving about. During the course of listening to "E To The P" I couldn't help but notice the affectionate pop tendencies the songs took on. From the tongue-in-cheek sad break-up-song rocker "7 Mile Road" to the poppy ballad "Angel" the songs on "E To The P" contain an abundance of catchy hooks, sensitive vocals and personal lyrics. Considering the fact that I truly loved each song on this EP I wouldn't feel right not mentioning the other two songs. "October 17" is a mid-tempo power pop tune that you will find yourself singing along to in no time at all. Aside from being infectious, the song also features some interesting guitar effects that only add more luring qualities to the song. "Jealous Girl", on the other hand, is an aggressive snotty melodic punk cut that features sing-along choruses and searing guitar cuts. As far as I'm concerned, Split Habit is a band with unlimited potential, wide appeal and an innovatory sound.
