    Artist History
Gravity 44 has been playing Columbus venues for a year and have built a loyalfan base who come to check out our highenergy shows. We've played at the Northberg Tavern, Bernie's Distillery,OSU's Springfest and the Newport MusicHall. The debut album Escape Velocitycaptures the band's dynamic high energysound and gives you all the sounds youneed to get down. Here's how it all happened.... Once upon a time, it all began whenLance decided that what this countryneeded was another boy-band, but thecharacteristic that would distinguish usfrom such prodigies as the BackstreetBoys, Together, N' Sync, and 98 Degreesis that we would write all of our ownoriginal material, and we would actuallyplay instruments (a novel idea this day inage!) So I, Lance, set out to findprodigies of both mind and instrument, and what I discovered is as follows: John - guitar and bass clarinet legend in Mentor, OH~ this kid can play like there's no tomorrow...we played a few Coffeehaus gigs at Taylor Tower before trying to form our own version of a guitar-bass-drum trio (aptly titled "Liquid Shadow") with Kevin Hadyl, our high school bandmate and longtime friend...discovering how the band probably would go nowhere with Lance on lead vocals, John and Lance proceeded to be auditioned by the band formerly known as "Edgewood"...this made Kevin mad, but John and Lance were definitely to blame, so we felt terrible (Kevin still remains our bud to this day); John received a call from Trevor Clarke (a damn good singer), and John's tryout occurred over the phone because his voice-mail was a cheesy guitar solo, then John told Lance that they were in need of a bassist as well, so we went to Trevor's house and jammed with James Kilburg I (of the famous wine company and killer drum soloist), Trevor, and Joe (a guitar player who's last name escapes me at the current time); the jam went exceptionally well, and by the end of practice, four original songs had sprung from the minds of these intelligent youths. So then we had a few more practices, decided on a name [not - actually, we went through about ten names, including "Quagmire", (a great name I, Lance, came up with, but was not readily accepted by the rest of the group), "Quark", "Quorum", (damn, we loved those "Q's") "Rocket West", "Periwinkle Bats", and various others that don't come to mind right now...) and never really decided on one until Gravity44 stuck], We also decided collectively that Joe had artistic differences from the rest of us, so we then tried it with just a one-guitar approach...such legendary songs like "Conspiracy", "To Find You", "Fly By The Moon" and many more were spawned after just a few practices; this worked rather well, but seeing as it was already the end of Spring Quarter, we packed our stuff up, and went separate ways until Fall...John, Jim, and Lance saw each other over the summer, but I don't believe that we saw much of Trevor...anyways, we wrote a few more tunes, then one day we were practicing, and our buddies Ty Pierce and Nick Lehman came by to witness the debauchery taking place in our basement...during the whole practice Ty's head looked like it was about to explode, and this scared us but turned us on at the same time (you know how that goes probably). Well, we decided it would be fun to have Ty sing Dammit, (by Blink 182) a cover song we were playing, and he tore it up, so to speak...so thus Ty, the midgie-mullett-headed "Steamer" was added to the collective insanity known as Gravity 44....we thought it would be cool to have multiple singers, like 311, Reel Big Fish, Zebrahead, or Sevendust, but I don't think that it worked too terribly well. We then attempted a show at our old Alma Mater, Taylor Tower Coffeehaus...boy, anyone will tell you that show was terrible...once again artistic differences occurred, so we decided to let go of Trevor, who we still admire (for not slitting our throats with hard feelings) and still keep in touch with...damn, I realize that we went through a lot to get to the current line-up we have, and we definitely have to thank those we let go for understanding that it was NEVER anything personal against them...anyways, Ty started rapping about things that made us laugh, and let me tell you, that boy has more insanity in him than any human test-tube baby has a right to. Well, here we are, just about at the present time...after a road trip to see 311 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, we discovered Alta's Place in Paulding, (the "Ding") Ohio, home of Darsheen Highwarden (maker of many bastard babies), and 3 brand new, never-heard-before songs were genetically-engineered by super gravity...so there you have it, the story of gravity affecting us in very weird but wonderful ways...whoa, almost forgot our first real (non-Alma Mater) gig: damn, there were a ton of people there...over 300 walked in the door (about half that many were carried out) on that fateful Thursday night...crowd-surfing in Bernie's Distillery is unheard of (and we supposedly led a group of men to tear apart their living room upon arrival at their house)...wow, we really have great fans friends, so thanks to all of those who made that night amazing!
