    Artist description
Finding a term to describe this type of music is not easy. The twin basses suggest rumbling diesel trucks on dark desert roads. The drums alternate between ancient rituals and a death march. The guitar and vocals echo like sounds from a haunted house. The creepy keyboards warn listeners that something is terribly wrong. The band members chose the term "voodoobilly" to call their type of music. It fits. Rockabilly is an early form of rock music with a simple yet hypnotic beat. Voodoo is a religion practiced in the South and the Caribbean with elements of sorcery, fetishes and rituals.

    Artist History
Formed in the bordertown of San Diego many years ago, Deadbolt performs a type of music that defies categorization. The rumbling Wall of Thunder basses and the savage drumming are sliced by stinging guitar riffs that conjure images of a hungry shark in murky swamp waters. Elements of instrumental surf music and B-horror movie soundtrack music can be heard in the group's sound. There are also recurring themes of black magic, Mexican whorehouses, stories of terror on lonely highways, The King, disgruntled postal workers and various other tales of sleazy parties, girls gone bad and sinful ways. Deadbolt albums include: "Shrunken Head," "Tiki Man," "Tijuana Hit Squad," "Zulu Death Mask," and "Voodoo Trucker." To order Deadbolt compact discs, merchandise or send illegal contraband, write to Cargo/Headhunter Records, 4901-906 Morena Blvd., San Diego, CA 92117-3432, or visit the Cargo Records web site: www.cargomusic.com.

    Press Reviews
He (Macombo the evil witch doctor) took the fingernails of Dick Dale, the lungs of Link Wray and some surfboard wax from the Ventures and waved his magic six-string wand over their (Deadbolt) heads. -MAGNET Down in San Diego, you can count on a few things: great weather, lost weekends in neighboring Tijuana, surf culture and, every two years or so, another album from deadpan theatrical combo Deadbolt. -RAY GUN Deadbolt sprouts its twisted reverb rockabilly, a cross between the Blues Brothers and The Cramps. -SPIN MAGAZINE Deadbolt sounds as if it celebrates Halloween every day of the year. Mixing surf rock with rockabilly, the local group's third album has a charm as spooky as anything by the Cramps. -SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE You can read it right on the cover of all four Deadbolt albums: "Scariest Band in the World." If that's not convincing enough, consider this: these guys always wear sunglasses when they play! Man. Talk about tempting fate. It's only a matter of time before one of them trips over a speaker and crashes onto a hard club floor. (The bandmembers) do lots of other scary stuff on stage, too. Like, they cut things in half with an actual power saw! It's like having a whole two-stroke motorcycle engine jammed in your ear! Pretty scary! And what about that stinky toxic exhaust cloud that pours out of the saw? Incredibly unnerving! The band also does a lot of on-stage stuff with fire that you just know would be full-on catastrophic if any of them ever, like, moved closer. - SIGN ON SAN DIEGO I wish that I had never heard Deadbolt before. I wish that I didn't have all five releases by these suave voodoo snake charmers from San Diego, that I hadn't spent countless hours caught in the demented, murky web of their surf/lounge groove. I wish that I could do it all over again, relive the feeling I got the first time I heard Tiki Man and looking at my wife, asking "what the hell is this?" and being a hopeless fan by the time the CD ended. I want to once again feel the joy of finding Tijuana Hit Squad, Deadbolt's third release, in a grimy record store in London. For all you new fans out there, prepare yourselves for an experience like none you've ever had before. Get ready to ask yourself why the hell you've suddenly been smitten by a band whose songs all sound the same, 'cause truth be told Deadbolt make The Ramones sound like Neil Young when it comes to musical growth and experimentation. But above all else, new fans should prepare themselves for an evil dose of fun, humor and far-out tunes. - EARPOLLUTION
