Artist History
On a hot and alcohol induced night in mid 1993, young central Indiana guitarist Chet Haun goes out to see a band called Freakshow and their insane bassist Andy Christman. Sometime during the set that night, Andy recognized Chet from his band Lazy Bones, and threw him a proposition of playing lead guitar for Freakshow. Chet accepts. All’s well in wonderland for about 2 days when the drummer and singer decide that they’ve had enough. For seven years, these 2 friends bounce between singers, and drummers.Chet Haun gets a new job at Sight & Sound inc. as the business’s webmaster, where he is introduced to psychotic music store salesman, and musician, Carl “CL3” Lephart. Carl’s a hell of a talker, but usually knows the shit he’s talking about, especially when it comes to music, so Chet invites him to come to a practice session for the current band. Showing up to the band's practice studio, Carl finds the guys without a singer. He waits around listening to these guys rip stuff like “Am I Evil” by Metallica, and “Warpigs,” by Sabbath, warm up jams really, when Chet stops and says, “So, do you wanna sing something?” Carl accepts, and without a word these possessed bastards slam into the beginning of "loco," by Coal Chamber, with force. When it’s over, the drummer at the time throws his sticks across the room at Carl and asks if he wants a job. Done! But not over. The next two months get blurry. A cavalcade of shows and some good reviews go by detailing the band's energy on stage. Tension mounts in the band over original music and Boom! The bomb drops. Longtime drummer and friend, Donnie Anacker, decides to leave over creative differences. While on the Holy Quest to find a drummer that could hang with the pace, Carl stumbles upon an old friend of the best kind, a friend with drums and skills. Enter Larry Suarez. Larry was the pro musician type that had been around the scene playing with everyone from New York to Tennessee, so when asked to audition, no one knew what would happen. As prepared as can be expected, the guys jump right into it with a couple of grooves, probably Godsmack. Can anyone say night and day? The tunes had never been that solid or grooving. Dirty Larry made the day, and Concrete Sledge as it is now was born.Today, The PathSledge is about the music, the fans, and the energy exchanged between the audience and us! So it only makes sense to tackle the task with those points in mind.1. Music.... make it musical. Make it heavy with a simple formula! No exceptions!2. Fans... play the shit that the partying members of the audience want to hear. If it wasn’t for them, we’d be nowhere. No delusions!3. Energy...play every second of the show like it were the last time. Make it count. Make ‘em feel it. No excuses! The only thing that music fans can count on in this crazy life is that Sledge is gonna play. First we’ll play, then we’ll play again, and after that, I think we’ll play, just to make sure you’ve got it. |
