Artist History
The Schaumburg Youth Orchestra was founded early in 1989 out of the growing need for an outlet for young advanced musicians in the Schaumburg area. Originating as a string ensemble with 16 members, the orchestra made its public debut with a short concert performance at the 1989 Prairie Arts Festival. During its next two seasons, the orchestra continued to attract more talented players, and by the fall of 1990, began to include wind and brass players with the ambition of someday becoming a full concert orchestra. By the spring of 1991, the Schaumburg Youth Symphony Orchestra boasted 29 string, wind and brass players. The orchestra now includes a roster of nearly 150 musicians. In 1999, the Symphony Orchestra recorded its first compact disc, "Birth of a Millennium." CD's of the recording are currently being distributed to newborn infants at area hospitals as part of the Village of Schaumburg's millennium celebration. And, after 12 years of enriching the community with local concerts, the Schaumburg Youth Orchestra traveled overseas, touring Germany and Austria the in summer of 2000 with performances in Munich, Innsbruck and Salzburg. |
