Press Reviews
From: http://www.windandwire.com The song, "Journey to the Surface," from new age music artist Gaylene's upcoming CD of the same name, is a great slice of classic spacemusic and bodes well for her future on the ambient/spacemusic/new age music landscape. Echoing the patient serenity of such memorable works as Nik Tyndall's Lagoon and Robert Haig Coxon's The Inner Voyage, the song features a slow tempo crystalline rhythm of synth notes on top of which float gossamer-thin synth strings and washes. The effect is mesmerizing and enchanting, combined with a small amount of mystery through the use of subtle minor tonalities at times. Other tunes on her mp3.com site reveal an artist who is surely not one-dimensional as "Journey to the Surface" features delicate flute played in a lilting fashion while dramatic drones and synth strings carry a neo-classical refrain in the background. "A Voice from the Shells" brings together synths, liquid-sounding synth piano, and guitar in a gentle song that combines ambient textures with classic new age music soundscapes. Personally, I'm anxious to hear her first CD, which she is working on right now. If the mp3.com samples played over computer speaker on a low-speed connection sound good, just think how the real thing will sound! - Bill Binkelman |
